The views at this hotel were hands down amazing! The staff got us checked in early (thank you!). The only complaint we had was that the staff made some man a key to our room in the middle of the night (and we double checked the deadbolt but both missed it) so he came in at 1:03am. I spoke with the hotel in the morning and was just told that they were aware it occurred and no apology or anything. Otherwise - everything else was fantastic! The bartender (Steven) was very attentive and kind.

The room was okay, a little dated, but the door was so loose that you could see daylight around the entire door. I had to go down multiple steps with a 50 lb suitcase and backpack to my room when arriving and leaving. No assistance. The restaurant was not open the first two days. It was one of the reasons we picked the hotel. The power kept going out. The air unit was good and the breakfast was fair. The front desk person was nice and the housekeeper was good.
The staff Kalyna and Kyle as well as the lady who checked us in (sorry I forget her name) were very friendly and helpful. That is all this hotel has going for it. Looks nothing like the pictures. This hotel is many many years past looking like it does in the pictures. We chose the hotel because of the mountaintop restaurant to allow us to relax prior to our flight. The restaurant has not been open for many months although we were never notified at booking nor is it anywhere on their website. They were able to serve pizza at 4pm (thx Kyle) but it wasn’t the fine dining experience with the beautiful ambience we thought we would enjoy. The restaurant is actually under construction so the roof is tarped over, it is very dirty and no operational bar. Sitting at the pool there are drills and hammers going as well as at the continental breakfast the next morning. Check in is at 4pm so it is a long time to wait with nowhere to go for food or quiet if you arrive on an earlier ferry. We also for some reason incredibly overpaid through Expedia. We booked a bungalow and prepaid for it. When we arrived we were told we were “upgraded” to a king room. Not sure how a king room is an upgrade from a whole bungalow. I feel we didn’t get the accommodation we paid for through Expedia and the room we were actually put in is available for booking as of yesterday for almost $200 less than we paid. We should have saved the $35 cab ride to the top and stayed somewhere else closer to amenities.
What a quaint and unique hotel. The highlight of course is the amazing view that we enjoyed from our room, our balcony, the pool and the restaurant. The room was well air-conditioned, clean, newly renovated, comfortable mattress and linens. We really enjoyed our stay.
Absolutely delightful!!!! Best view on the island. Incredible staff. Breakfast was excellent. What a treat to have found this gem boutique hotel. We had a lovely dinner at hotel restaurant one night. Food and service were perfect.
I like the viewof the water being so far up in the mountains. The breakfast was the same thing everyday except for the pastry. But had to taxi to get downtown . And it started to become costly. Nice rooms for the price and the staff was helpful during their work hours.
We lucked into one of the most magical stays we have ever had world wide.. it was a last minute trip due to us needing to catch up with a cruise ship.. that turned into us planning to go back to spend at least a week.. from the property, to the room, to the staff.. all 5 stars.. its the first time i've ever been thankful that a flight was delayed. It was magical.
The Mafolie Hotel has been around for years. Its beautiful setting is worth the taxi ride up the mountain! On the plus side, the open air restaurant and DELICIOUS food would be a destination in itself. Our room had a lovely balcony looking over the property and out to the harbor, and the room was large and clean. However, the bathroom was outdated, the floor tile was cracked and in need of a little TLC. Overall, though, Mafolie is a great alternative to staying on the water with views that are five-star!

The restaurant was delicious! And the included breakfast was a great way to start our day each morning. The staff were all very friendly and we felt very safe staying at this hotel. Views = 10/10
We were very happy to find Mafolie Hotel after deciding to leave our not so nice accommodations on St John.
We only spent one night, but the room was clean and comfortable, the staff at the front desk was pleasant. We enjoyed the continental breakfast before heading to the airport for our flight home. The woman at the front desk arranged our taxi ride to the airport when we arrived to check in.
Very quaint boutique hotel. The best views on the island as the hotel is set up high on the hillside. Clean and quiet. Has a nice bar and restaurant. Beautiful pool area. Lots of steps —not handicapped accessible—so beware if you are elderly or disabled.
