We experienced a strong foul odor upon opening the room door similar to a moldy carpet or a wet dog. I called the front desk right away and asked the overnight attendant for a different room. She offered to look for one and call me back. While waiting for her call, I went to use the restroom. When I turned on the light in the bathroom a roach scurried under a baseboard. At that point I knew we could not stay in any room at that hotel. The toilet and trash can were dirty. I was so turned off, I didn’t even use the bathroom. I called my husband who had gone to park our car and told him about what I saw. Instead of accepting keys to the other room we informed the attendant why we could not stay there at all. She did not have the authority to issue a refund so she provided us with the business card of the guest service director who we could follow up with for a refund. I’ve stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites numerous times and this is the first time I’ve experienced anything like this. Such a treat after 10 hours on the road!
