I was a little irritated. I called ahead and told them it was my wife’s birthday and her anniversary if they could do something a little special for her and they said yes, no problem. When we got there, all they did was give her a free drink ticket to one of the restaurants that is open at five and closes at 10.

We decided on this hotel for the pool for our underaged son. We were kicked out of the workout room because he’s under the age of 18. Then, the pool was closed for the day, on a Saturday, and no one could tell us if it would re-open on our second and last day here. We went to talk to the front desk and all they did was offered to refund our resort fees. No vouchers to return, no vouchers for meals. We are very disappointed.

The hotel was nicely appointed but everywhere we went the service was pretty terrible. From checkin where we were told our room was ready twice, and it wasn’t (we had left to go eat and gamble then came back twice after receiving phone calls saying it was ready — after 4pm checkin time —and no real apology or concessions made) to the servers at both bistro mariposa (clearly not trained for the level of restaurant) and 24/7, to very slow cocktail waitresses, to a very grumpy barista at checkout. Honestly, we will check out the other 4-star hotel in Black Hawk next time.
