Pretty nice hotel overall. Desk staff was very helpful at check-in. The only inconvenience is parking on the 5th floor then having to take an elevator back to the lobby only to get on another elevator to go to the 8th floor to our room. Parking however was free to guests and that was a plus considering so many other hotels in the area charged a high rate to park. Room was clean and comfortable, but could not figure out why there were these huge plastic tags on the pillows, felt very intrusive. They could upgrade their toilet paper and Kleenex way too rough. Wanted to rate the free breakfast but wrote this review prior to that.

Room beyond my expectations (had to check what I paid because I didnt remember the amenities). Loved the shower panel. Bed softer than expected, but ok. Staff was helpful, but additional information about cart location and empty drink machines would've been helpful up front (walked two floors before going to front desk to be told only one was working, which soon became inoperable. SORRY!!! - I was reimbursed). They WERE helpful concerning parking. Otherwise, no complaints. Breakfast was decent (didnt try waffle or omelet). I'd stay again, but with my own drinks readily available. Oh... pay attention to signs/instructions for entering second floor and which elevator for certain room numbers.

Perfect little hotel for our one night quick trip! The lobby was beautiful, check in was seamless, and parking was FREE! The room quite nice, a little older, but still nice and clean! Looks like they are renovating rooms, but the one we stayed in wasn’t yet! Still a very nice room, even had a ceiling fan! I was ecstatic! 😂 Breakfast Buffett was included and it was delicious! Service at the Buffett was wonderful! Would definitely recommend and would absolutely stay there again! 10/10

The staff wasn't overly friendly or helpful. A lot of stuff broken in the game room. The pool was freezing and dirty. Our ice machine was broke on our floor. I had to go down to the front desk myself to get more towels. The vending machine was broken and out of order. The room itself was pretty decent. Bed wasn't terrible and the shower was pretty amazing except a dirty bottom. Also it was quite loud. I could hear everyone around us flushing their toilets. Not sure I will stay there again. Looks like they will be renovating for a long time.

I had a unique opportunity to compare the Clayton Plaza to another hotel. My employer put me up at Fancy hotel for a couple nights. I was looking for an economical option to extend my stay a few days and I found the Clayton Plaza. It’s a great location in the heart of downtown Clayton that worked very well for my needs The room rate was about half the cost of Fancy hotel and included a very extensive delicious breakfast buffet, (served on paper plates), free parking and the use of facilities I didn’t need. At Fancy hotel everything - including bottled water in the room - was extra. The room, while very simple, was spacious and clean and had everything I needed, including a small refrigerator and a microwave. When I stayed at Fancy hotel, I could never get hot water in the shower whereas at the Clayton Plaza the shower was excellent and reliable. Fancy hotel had no counter space for my toiletries while Clayton Plaza had ample. The towels were not as plush, but they were clean and available. I didn’t have maid service so I can’t comment on that. The air conditioner worked very well and it was very hot day, better than at Fancy hotel. The dining room staff and other staff were very pleasant and helpful. At Fancy hotel, the reception clerk was very well trained and gracious while Clayton Plaza reception could use a little training. Windows could be cleaner, signage could be more polished, but for an economical, desirable location Clayton Plaza would be hard to beat.

The breakfast were outstanding. The omlet cooks were very pleasant and engaging. If not for the quality and variety of the breakfasts I would not consider returning. There was no sports bar on the property as advertised. Vending machine out of order all 4 days. Pool neglected. Old tired depressing rooms. The bones of the hotel are magnificent. With some TLC and financial investment it could be a great property.

Terrible Check-in Experience

Not sure what happened to the staff at this hotel. Used to be wonderful. Worst check-in experience I’ve had in my 50 years of domestic & international travel. Manager (at front desk) is obviously not a joyful woman. I arrived shortly before the check-in time of 4pm. I was told my two reserved (and prepaid) rooms were not ready as I was early. I asked if that meant I had to wait the 10 minutes until 4pm? No, I might have to wait until 6pm but she would call me when the rooms were ready. So we waited at a coffe shop for 2 hours but never received a call. Returning to the hotel, there was another desk clerk on duty (as well as the same manager). I approached the new clerk & she promptly put us into two rooms (one handicapped). Sheesh!
