Tiny and very dark rooms. Very small gym, menu in the dinning restaurants is very limited .. room service staff are loud , laughter in the corridor , and not respectful , they knocked the door hard to say you have to leave because you are late.. and the list goes on. too expensive for such experience. I don't recommend it at all.

If you're into goth style then this might be your place, room I got was black, which is an odd color for a room. The toilet had a rather weird wallpaper (at least i hope it was wallpaper) green leafs and island birds on it. The staff told me they weren't part of the chain of van der valk hotels but had the part of the same name as the chain and used the exact same logo, that's sounds like copyright infringement to me but its a different country maybe they do things differently there. I mention this because somehow i end up there instead of the hotel i was trying to book (van der valk Haarlem), could of sworn i triple check the name before booking. Asked if they could help me transfer the reservation but they said that they weren't a part of the chain. I could leave but that they wouldn't refund me, i ended up almost an hour away from where I should have been.

It was our second stay while visiting Amsterdam and would definitely come back in the future. Kind and helpful staff, clean and modern rooms, good location with easy commute to the city center and amazing spa is just icing on the cake.

Nice Hotel Let Down by Extra Charges & Rude Staff

At first the hotel seemed attractive, but several issues soon became clear. The pool is outdoors, which was not obvious from the photos, so if the weather is bad you are exposed to the elements. The hotel also charges extra for many things, including breakfast which many Amsterdam hotels include, spa access and bathrobes, so the advertised price may not be the whole picture. On my last night I requested a late checkout and was told there was normally a fee but that it had been 'sorted'. The next day as I was about to leave an angry staff member banged on my door, accused me of lying and demanded I go to reception to pay immediately. I understand mistakes can happen, but being treated like a dishonest guest was upsetting. The situation could have been handled far more politely, although she did apply a small discount in the end. Some staff, especially in the bar, were genuinely lovely, so it is a shame that the experience was marred by how I was treated at the end. I have stayed at this chain elsewhere with only positive experiences, but this incident has left me questioning how new guests might be treated.
