The building is 145 years old so If you know this when you book you do not expect it to be the same as a modern hotel. I loved the high ceilings, wooden floors and furniture and fittings to match the building. There were ample electrical sockets.
You imagine all the people that have passed through this hotel and all the events in history that this hotel has experienced.
For me this is not a complaint but there is no swimming pool and where one would be is the outside breakfast restaurant. I am glad they have not put one in, it would spoil the ambiance. There are frangipanni trees that are as old as the hotel.
The staff are friendly and helpful but are not too fluent in english so google translate or similar app can be helpful not only in the hotel but else well. To me this adds fun to the discusions.
The hotel is central to a lot of tourist attractions, restaurants and shopping malls, some within easy walking distance. Next to the hotel is the Saigon Opera House, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a show there.
Also the street traffic appears less but still a challenge crossing the streets if you are not use to it. There seems to be more traffic lights in this area but you still need to be vigilant when crossing.
My review is as observed as a senior, so overall I had nice stay and have fond memories of our first stay in Ho Chi Minh City.
