Perfect for the night

Very nice and simple. Worked great for the night. The staff was super friendly and the bed was comfortable. It has a good location for both parts of La Jolla. It’s not luxury but it is nice.

This hotel had everything we needed!! Perfect for a weekend getaway. Located in a great area with restaurants and beach walking distance away. We also loved the hot tub. Staff were also very nice and helpful

I booked a “newly remodeled” room at The Shoal La Jolla Beach, but what I experienced was completely different from what was advertised. The room was right next to a busy street, with cars passing all night, making it impossible to rest. The air was stuffy, the AC didn’t work, and the room was dirty — even the area by the stairs outside was full of dust and filth. There were mosquitoes inside, and I got bitten during the night. The bathroom was filthy, with mold and dirt in the corners of the shower and brown stains on the door. The ice bucket lid was rusted, and even the AC vent was covered in dust. When I reached out to the hotel, they refused to change my room, claiming no availability — yet there were rooms available the next day. They even suggested fixing the AC at 10–11 p.m., which is unreasonable. This property is misleadingly advertised and unsanitary. I would never stay here again, and I strongly suggest Expedia review this listing for false advertising and health concerns.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Rooms are very nice, with new modern bathrooms. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Short walk to Windansea Beach, which is gorgeous. Pool and hot tub were fun. Parking no problem. If you want room service, just make sure to ask, as it is not automatic. We look forward to coming back again.

Meh on The Shoal

Noisy between the road and other guests--thin walls and floors. Inadequate parking--ended up having to find street parking if I came back after 9 pm. Staff were very kind and professional, and I appreciated being able to rent beach equipment/towels. Overall, it felt like a old converted apartment building, and not sure I'd stay there again.
