We had a great room with a beautiful view of Lake Huron. Although the hotel itself was not very new, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast surpassed our expectations. We also appreciated the quick, easy walk to Shepler's Ferry dock.

The breakfast room was wood-timbered and light, with a view of the water and the Mackinac Bridge. The food was great. The pool was spacious; there was a hot tub.

The room was clean but the wall was leaking water and the carpet was soaking wet, there was a dehumidifier in the room so it must’ve been known by maintenance, there were mold spores on the wall where the water was actively leaking, and the wall was gooey in the trail of the water. I brought the attention to the staff member and he tried to accommodate but couldn’t. We checked in very late so we just stayed in the room anyway. The next morning I brought the attention to the staff again and they just looked at me like I was dumb and said thanks we will let someone know. Fine to stay here in a pinch but won’t be going back.

The proprety is very run down ie mold in caulk around tub, cracked tub suround, and wallpaper starting to peel in the room, large amounts of peeling paont outside, an in the pool area the hot tub was very foamy and from my training as a pool operator that is a bad sign, also grab 3 towels and all of them had holes.

I was so excited to find this hotel on Expedia - the pictures of the rooms, pool, and interior sent me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane of vacations past from my childhood. It was different from the cold, cookie cutter hotels that are spit out today. Check in time was advertised at 4pm. We arrived just after 4:30, and were given our keys and sent on our way. When we got everything up to our room, we discovered that the cleaning crew was still working on it, so we waited around 10 minutes for her to finish up. When we were able to enter the room, it was obvious that parts of it were not cleaned. The table surfaces had definitely not been wiped down, nor had the carpet in front of the sofa been vacuumed—both full of debris and crumbs. The “wallpaper” throughout the room was peeling at the seams as well. The worst part though, was the bathroom. Several spots in the tub were not grouted properly so there was an overgrowth of mold. Mold was also growing on the walls. The toilet was not correctly bolted to the ground and wobbled every time anyone sat on it. This property has so much potential, but it needs MAJOR work. I can’t help but wonder what building inspectors/health code would have to say about the absurd mold growth that is just being ignored. I expected WAY more from a Best Western in such a popular tourist town. I will not be back, and will make sure to let friends and family know about our experience as well. DO NOT STAY HERE!
