An issue came up the evening we tried to reconcile our bill. We were told that since we had accumulated over $700 in incidentals, they had locked us out of our room. I had spoken with a manager earlier that morning to settle our bill. She advised me that the best time to settle would be after 10pm when the new shift had arrived. Not once did she inform me of such a policy where we would be locked out of our room. Furthermore, the hotel could have left a message on our room phone several days in advance asking us to settle up. We would have been more than happy to comply. Instead, we left the dining room after dinner and went directly to the front desk where we received the news that our room keys no longer worked. This was done with other guests in the lobby. For that reason, I gave four stars to several categories in the survey. I would have downgraded it more except that the service and friendliness of the rest of the staff was so superb it would not have been fair to them.
