Going to the convention centre in Singapore is like entering a different world. Inside, the structure is crisp and modern, providing a cool respite from the heat outdoors. The centre's line-up varies from year-to-year, but can include food expos, medical trade shows, and lifestyle exhibitions.

Singapore's hotels serve cuisine that blends traditional spices with fine dining. Head to the city in July to experience the Singapore Food Festival and try famous Hainanese Chicken Rice or Chay Kuey Tiao (fried thick vermicelli in sweet sauce) that is unlike anything you can find at home. Take an authentic approach to Indian and Malay dishes by using your hands to eat. Local favorites at the hawker stalls and food courts are: Laksa (a coconut curry-base noodle), Satay (BBQ skewers with chicken, mutton, or beef infused with spices) and Hokkien Fried Noodles.

Shopping is something of a national joy, which means many Singapore hotels are within easy reach of bustling malls.
