Fabulous apartment hotel in a beautiful location a short walk from the lake in Belconnen. The kitchenette and washer-dryer in the room were great for a full week work trip. The bed was super comfy.

The accommodation is well organised, efficient, comfortable and very clean. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. The immediate area around the hotel only has a few places to dine though and everything is usually closed by 9pm each night. Except for perhaps room service in the hotel itself and the Labour Club just opposite. There are a few fast food places like KFC and McDonalds within walking distance and down by the lake. Then a pub and a few other places further along the lake side if you feel up for a lightly longer walk. Maybe 20 mins so more too bad.

Good spot in Belconnen, Woolworths Metro right outside the door. Good parking. Nice and reasonably affordable restaurant menu. Out of the centre of Canberra in Belconnen but we knew that and everywhere is less than 20 minutes by car anyway.

The Abode Belconnen is a well run hotel apartment. It is clean and quiet and comfortable. The only thing I don’t like about the place is the common area. This is where the restaurant is located. Although, in all the times I have stayed here, the only people I have ever seen dining there for lunch or dinner are the staff!! I have seen a few people on occasion having breakfast or coffee on the lounge seats by the window. The menu is fine for hotel dining but the place lacks atmosphere and almost has a school cafeteria look about it. It could be way more inviting aesthetically. It’s a shame because the area around the Abode is a bit soulless too. So a nice/bar restaurant would be a welcome addition. The hotel apartment is located in a laneway and as such you would expect it to have a bit of a ‘vibe’ about it but it doesn’t at all. There are just a couple of boring supermarkets, a bottle shop and a few very meagre type restaurants/takeaways. All quiet and with changeable opening times. There is also the Canberra Labour Club at the end of the laneway but that is a bit of a dive!

Fire alarm evacuation & lost item no contact

I checked in late at night 8pm, and the building has fire alarm triggered where all guest has to be evacuated at night, my baby got woken up and cries all the way out. I left my Tshirt in the bathroom when leaving, contacted reception twice and someone promised me will let me know about lost item but never did…

Pro: * Great location, walkable distance to nearby food options, lake front and Westfield. * Pretty good pool and outdoor commons/grounds area * Good sized rooms Cons: * My family room had popcorns on the carpet albeit slightly covered by the curtains when I first got in the room, which quickly made me wonder how well the rooms are cleaned as they should be pretty visible to anyone to clean. * Sink in master bathroom was semi blocked with water very slowly draining. * Exhaust fan in master bathroom was not working * Booked for parking but there was not enough space. We had a space and left for dinner with friends and came back late the two nights we were there and when we came back, all spaces reserved for the hotel was occupied.
