3 Pros / 2 Cons
+ Shortest walk to the lifts at the Grand Lodge — 5 minutes to the Red Lady Express.
+ True pet-friendly: first-floor, side-door access ($50 pet fee, 2 max).
+ Full resort amenities without resort pricing — pool, hot tub, gym, steam room.
- Entry door is close to the bed. Light sleepers should pack earplugs.
- Older building; well maintained but cosmetics aren't new-build.
Guest Access:
Self check-in with a keypad code sent the day before arrival.
You have private access to the entire studio. You also have full use of the shared Grand Lodge amenities: indoor/outdoor heated pool, hot tub, dry sauna, steam room, fitness center, elevator, and lobby seating by the fireplace.
Parking: one free outdoor parking pass per unit, plus free street parking. Additional vehicles park on the street. EV charger on property.
Ski storage: overnight ski and bike storage at the base with our partner Butte & Co — skip hauling gear through the lobby.
Note: Grand Lodge amenities (pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym) are operated by the building's on-site management, not by Traverse. Operating hours and occasional closures are set by the building and are outside our control.
The Neighborhood:
Mt. Crested Butte sits at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, 2 miles up from the historic town of Crested Butte. Step out of the Grand Lodge and you're in the base village: Red Lady Express lift is a 5-minute walk, with coffee at Camp 4, lunch at Butte 66, and gear rentals on the same block.
For Elk Avenue — the historic main street for dining, shops, and galleries — catch the free town shuttle from the lobby; it runs every 15 minutes.
Summer is the quieter side of the resort: lift-served mountain biking, hiking Oh-Be-Joyful and Rustler Gulch, the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival in July, and rafting on the Taylor and East rivers.
Key distances:
• 5-minute walk to the Red Lady Express lift base
• 2-minute walk to base village dining and shops
• 8-minute shuttle to Elk Avenue in downtown Crested Butte
• 45-minute drive to Gunnison–Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC)
• 4.5-hour drive from Denver
Getting Around:
Once you arrive, a car is optional.
Complimentary Town Shuttle: Pick up at the Grand Lodge lobby. Runs every 15 minutes between Mt. Crested Butte and historic Crested Butte (Elk Avenue). Operates daily, winter and summer.
Walking: Base-area village shops, dining, and the Red Lady Express lift are all within a 5-minute walk.
Driving: Free outdoor parking spot (one pass per unit). EV charger on property. Additional vehicles use free street parking.
Airports:
• Gunnison–Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) — 45 minutes by car or airport shuttle
• Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) — 2.5 hours by car
• Denver International (DEN) — 4.5 hours by car (4+ hours in winter with snow)
Winter driving: US-50 and CO-135 are well maintained but add buffer time in storms. A rear- or all-wheel-drive vehicle with snow tires is strongly recommended November–April.

Interaction with Guests:
Traverse manages this property — a boutique Colorado property manager based in Crested Butte and Leadville. A real person is on call throughout your stay.
Before arrival: You'll get a welcome email with a door code, directions, parking, and a link to our digital guidebook with restaurant picks, trail suggestions, and grocery tips.
During your stay: Chris and the Traverse team respond within the hour during business hours (sooner for urgent issues). For anything on the Grand Lodge amenity side (pool, hot tub, sauna, front-door issues), we'll route you to the building's on-site management.
After check-out: We welcome every bit of feedback. If something wasn't right, we'd rather hear it from you than read it in a review — and we'll make it right.
