Luxury Pet Friendly Home with Amazing Views of the Ski Mountain! Private Hot Tub! Fireplace!



The Space:

Welcome to Whetstone Chalet on Mt. Crested Butte, a gorgeous house with amazing views of the ski hill and all the glorious surrounding mountain ranges. A true mountain house with impeccable carpentry throughout with thoughtful furnishings. You'll be close to the base, have your own hot tub, build real fires in a wood fireplace, and cook gourmet meals in the kitchen. Located only a 12 minute walk to the base area the location is fantastic regardless of the season. Skiing in the winter or hiking and biking in the summer, the rec path is just about 400 feet from the front door and connects you up to Gothic or all the way down to the town of CB! 



There is an accessory basement dwelling (known as Spellbound Cottage) to the chalet which can accommodate an additional 4 people. The dwelling has a private hot tub as well, along with a full kitchen, fireplace, and bathroom. There may be guests in Spellbound Cottage during your stay, but the entrances and outdoor spaces are separate.



You'll enter the house through a hand-carved, wooden front door. A small closet for your coats is located in the hallway or you can walk a foot further and store everything in the heated garage. No parking is allowed in the garage--for gear & bike storage only.



The living room has an expansive 20 foot high window facing Mt. Crested Butte and will definitely get your attention with the beauty of it. The views are breathtaking from every angle of the house, with Mt. Whetstone, the Elk Mountain Range, and Snodgrass all within sight. A massive 5,000 pound Douglas Fir log beam is mounted at the top of the living room ceiling, running throughout the house to the upstairs bedroom. You can sit around the river stone fireplace and enjoy real wood fires (wood provided) while enjoying a glass of wine to unwind.



The kitchen is located on the main level on the other side of the fireplace with a six burner gas range built into the stonework. A huge butcher block table is the centerpiece of the kitchen with hanging pots/pans from the hand crafted wood hanger. Everything you need to make a simple to complicated gourmet meal is available. Your friends and family can enjoy some nibbles during meal prep on the other side of the butcher block so you can all be together. Two sinks, granite countertops, a large pantry and plenty of service ware is provided to enjoy large family meals. There is also seating provided at a dining room table adjacent to the kitchen for meals.



The master suite occupies the entire top floor with an ensuite bathroom including a shower, clawfoot tub, and vanity cabinet with granite top. The bedroom has a seating area and luxurious king size bed with beautiful linens/pillows, and plenty of room to organize your clothes on shelves and a hanging area. The room is a quiet oasis in a busy world. The best part of this room (besides the king bed) is the view from the bed, looking up to the skylight and seeing a view of the stars, moon, and Mt. CB.



The other bedrooms are located on the ground level. The first bedroom has a queen size bed with beautiful linens, a dresser, tv, and closet with hangers. The third bedroom includes another queen bed with Zinus mattress (memory foam) and beautifully appointed linens. This room also has a tv, dresser, closet and views.



The ground level has a full bathroom conveniently located for the downstairs bedrooms with a shower/tub and plenty of towels, and the main level has a small powder bathroom that even has views!



The heated garage is for storing your gear (no parking allowed). There is plenty of backup wood, a utility sink, and coat hooks. Access is from the front door only in the winter. In the summer you can open the garage door to store your bikes and gear. There's also a large wood bench that comes in handy when putting on testy ski boots and taking them off after a long day of skiing.



The hot tub sits out on a pristine deck with amazing views. There are two other decks in the house--one outside the living room and the other outside the kitchen to give you access to a gas grill that is accessible year round.



A washer and dryer are located on the main level in a separate utility closet. Along with basic cleaning supplies, you will be set for your stay.



This property is also serviced by the new First Tracks free shuttle system. Click on the QR code in your welcome app and request a ride to the base area where you can ski or catch a shuttle down to town for shopping and dining. They come right to the property and it's FREE!

the free first tracks shuttle service makes access to and from the base very easy for skiing. hot tub is great and very scenic.driveway can get a bit icy on the downhill side, so just watch your step

Great location, with easy access to gothic road leading to hiking and biking trails.The property had an excellent main level for the family to prepare/enjoy meals and views! Perfect

Location is great, all amenities were excellent. It’s really only about a 10 minute walk to get into the base area for skiing. The hot tub was excellent, and sitting on the deck looking at Mount crested Butte was a perfect way to end every day.

This is our second year staying in the wonderful home and we loved it just as much this time as the first time around. The home is beautifully furnished with everything you may possibly need. One of my favorite places I’ve stayed!

This house was amazing in every aspect. My husband and I visited Crested Butte for fall colors. The house has a great location with everything we needed plus some. We took full advantage of the hot tub and enjoyed Star gazing while soaking in the evenings. The views were amazing. The house was exceptionally clean. We’re looking forward to visiting again!

Amazing all around!

This was possibly my favorite property that I have ever rented! Such a beautiful home and in a prime location. We could walk to the mountain or easily hop on a shuttle. Breathtaking views of Mt Crested Butte right out the living room window. We would absolutely want to stay here again and will try to come back to see it in summer!

Perfect location, great amentities

Our stay was incredible. The location of this property is 10/10. It’s super easy to get to the mountain - you can walk or take the bus. The bus is a 2 minute ride. Very well equipped kitchen so you don’t have to leave the place after a long day of skiing. Fireplace and hot tub are both the icing on the cake!

A local Gem on the mountain

Communication with the owner of the property was spot on before, during and after. The home was a very short bus ride to the lifts and stopped right outside of the house. The beds were very comfortable and we had all everything we needed including dog sheets/blankets to help protect the home. We would love to visit and stay again next year. Thank you!

Will absolutely be going back!

There were far too many positive experiences on our trip to this beautiful home in Crested Butte to even begin to describe how much our family loved this place. The pictures don’t do it justice. The details are everywhere you look. The owners were very welcoming and accommodating. We go on a ski trip to different areas in Colorado every winter. This one was by far the best. We will definitely be going back.

Absolutely everything about this property made it hard to leave. My daughter couldn't stop talking about the bunk beds and the hot tub. I couldn't believe how intuitive everything was appointed. The kitchen amenities to the bathrooms... there wasn't anything we couldn't find when needed. I was able to send a signal from our iPad to any tv in the house, and I could cook anything with every single cooking option was available too! We will definitely be asking to stay there again.

“Storybook” is spot on!

This well appointed home is a skiers’ delight! They have everything you need, and then some. Walking distance to the resort, or take the bus that picks you up at the top of the driveway. The amenities were first class, and the owner is too. We had trouble getting to CB due to the weather, but Gilbert made certain we arrived via the safest route. Our favorite memories are the family times spent sledding, playing games, and just relaxing by the fire - a rare treat for a busy family of five. Thank you Gilbert for sharing you slice of Colorado heaven!

Great Place, Great Area

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Mountain House in Crested Butte. We had never been to this area before and found summertime in Crested Butte incredible. The house itself fit the setting perfectly. The owner, Gilbert, is a truly talented finish carpenter and made all of the cabinets and doors by hand. With three different levels, there was enough privacy for all. The house was clean and well furnished. The hot tub was great after a long day of hiking and mountain biking. The location is very convenient. We had only one issue with a utility problem and the owner immediately resolved it. In summary, we hope to explore Crested Butte again and if we do, we will try to stay here.

Lots of stairs!

We enjoyed crested butte. The house has a lot of stairs. The master bedroom is on 3rd floor. Kitchen and Greatroom 2nd floor. The other 2 bedrooms on the main floor that you walked into. These 2 rooms are small. No yard. Small outdoor decks. It was very clean. The floor plan did not work for our group. You had to go up stairs or down stairs.

Great location, beautiful views

Property is very clean and well maintained. We LOVED the hot tub! The house is very comfortable for our group of 6 ladies. Kitchen is well stocked with all cooking supplies. However, the grill could use replacing. The grate is rusty and the igniter does not work. Sleeping quarters were adequate. The pillows were surprisingly comfortable. Master bedroom mattress is very hard. My mom and sister had a difficult time sleeping on the bed. Overall, we felt like princesses in this fairytale like home. Thank you!

Perfect location with beautiful views

My husband and I cam to Crested Butte CO to get out of the Texas heat. I also learned to ski here and wanted to share mountain and beautiful valleys here. We liked it so much we are planning a ski trip this year to Mount Crested Butte. We would have booked this house but it was already booked. Elizabeth knew we were planning a birthday dinner and recommended The Sunflower and it was perfect! Thanks Elizabeth! The house as everything you need for a pleasurable stay. The weather was perfect with a few showers that cooled us off. I highly recommend this house for families traveling with their little pups, kids or friends!

Great long weekend stay

We loved our time at the property. Really appreciated the deck with the hot tub, as well as the higher deck for sitting and relaxing. There were plenty of towels, kitchen dish ware, and other supplies. There were people staying at the attached apartment, but we never heard them. Elizabeth had spot on recommendations for our family for spending time in Crested Butte and restaurants. Can’t wait to come back.

Well appointed stay in Mt. Crested Butte

We finally made it to Crested Butte in the summertime! What a lovely time to visit. The wildflowers were amazing! The Chalet was a lovely rental that had many thoughtful touches. Thank you for opening your home to us!
