Gallipoli overlooks the Ionian Sea, on the western coast of the Salento peninsula. The city of Gallipoli is divided into two parts, the "Borgo" and the Historic Center.



The Borgo is the most recent part of the city, built on a peninsula that extends into the Ionian Sea towards the west, which includes all the new constructions, such as the glass palace.



The Historic Center is located on a limestone origin island, connected to the mainland through a seventeenth-century arched bridge. The Island of Sant'Andrea, about a mile offshore from the historic center, is of significant historical and natural importance.
