Welcome to Owl's House, a private guest house situated on the 100-acre 1743 Prentice-Browning homestead farm. This historic farm is nestled in the picturesque countryside of southeastern Connecticut, otherwise known as "Mystic Country"; it's the perfect getaway or get-out-and-play. Our delightful farm stay offers a unique escape from the bustle of daily life, perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers seeking a serene getaway.
The house was originally built as a meeting hall for the town's garden club, it was connected to the 1700s carriage house. The "loft bedroom" was the hay loft above the stables and is now a lovely suite, which is great for kids. The design of the home is inspired by the art of Andrew Wyeth, blending simple elegance with rustic farm life into a thoughtfully designed living space, adorned with bespoke touches and an abundance of natural light. This cozy haven is fully equipped with modern amenities, including high-speed Wi-Fi, premium bedding which includes 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, Casper mattresses and pillows, fluffy down comforters, and cozy robes. A fully stocked kitchen and breakfast nook that overlooks our gorgeous herd of grazing Texas Longhorn cattle make for unique mornings or evenings watching the sunset. Complimentary Lavazza espresso and tea. The living room is relaxed elegance featuring a bar area, 9' leather couch, games, books, and 47" flat screen with Amazon Prime TV.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape as you enjoy scenic views of our working farm and private woodlands right from Owl's House. Step into the daily rhythms of farm life or a stroll through the private woods for birdwatching or listening (download Merlin). Our farm store is just a short walk from your doorstep, and we are always happy to open it for guests. We feature our own forage-fed Longhorn beef, plus locally sourced and small-batch goods, including a range of gourmet and artisanal products. Get Out And Play! The area abounds with things to do, from wine and beer tasting, casinos that offer spa, concerts, dining, water park, indoor karting, ice skating in winter and one of the best bowling alleys we've ever found. Outdoor life is abundant; we're just a "stone's throw" from the Atlantic Ocean beaches, Long Island Sound and lakes, plus hiking, horseback riding, biking or birdwatching excursions. Plus historical sites and museums. And finally, this area offers some of the BEST dining we've found east of NYC, where farm-to-table is not just a quaint notion but common fare. The farms are our favorite and we can point you in the right direction from seasonal tulip picking to fruit picking and cider mills.
