Welcome to The Sliding Rock Cottage, located on Gateway Mountain!

As a guest of this private gated community, you’ll have access to trails, waterfalls, and use of Lake George for fishing.

Set on seven acres of woods, there's privacy and seclusion without losing the benefit of being only 15 minutes from Old Fort I-40, where you'll find breweries, a winery, restaurants, a grocery store, fishing, and trails!

The space
Our creekside cottage was a custom design by us and built from 2022-2023. It is a cozy 1,450 sq ft, 3 bed/2 bath, having a 1,000 sq ft wrap around, covered porch, with a huge hot tub, a full kitchen, spacious living area, relaxing outdoor spaces, and specifically designed to allow you to unplug - rain or shine.

The Cottage:

We wanted to create a special place where you could escape from the world for a few days of quiet relaxation - both for our family to use and to be able to share that experience with others.

With this in mind, we purposely chose not to have a TV in the living room. Our goal is to provide a true retreat for guests who want to unplug and unwind. However, there are TVs in the bedrooms with king beds, and one on the covered porch.

Provided is a peaceful, quiet space set on 7 acres, where you can get lost in a book in one of our many cozy reading nooks, enjoy time playing board games, and building puzzles, relax in our spacious hot tub, eat dinner at the large table on the porch, or just listen to the sounds of the creek and nature.

* SLEEP WELL - All bedrooms have a DreamCloud mattress, with luxury bedding. King size beds - one upstairs, one downstairs. Twin size beds - two upstairs.
* Two bathrooms with floor to ceiling tile - one upstairs, one downstairs. Walk in shower downstairs. Bathtub & shower combo upstairs.
* Fully functioning kitchen, with gas stove - stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, dinnerware, and different types of glassware.
* We provide K cup coffee.
* Soaking / Therapeutic 7 person hot tub.
* Comfy outdoor spaces - The 1,000 sq ft wrap-around, covered porch, is the BEST part of the house. Sit outside, rain or shine, and listen to the sounds of rushing water flow down Sallie Davis Creek. Also, we have lounge chairs looking at the sliding rock, and a fire pit overlooking the trees.
* Propane grill and tools.
* Standing Rock Waterfalls & Lake George - Upper and Lower falls are less than 1 mile away from house - inside the neighborhood!

If you need internet for work or streaming, we do have high speed Starlink internet available.

While you might easily want to spend every minute on the porch enjoying the sounds of the Sallie Davis Creek flowing down the Sliding Rock, but if you're also looking for some adventures, Gateway Mountain, Old Fort, and the surrounding areas are home to some of the best hikes, mountain biking, fly fishing, waterfalls, swimming, and scenic drives in all of North Carolina.

• 15 minutes from the breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants in Old Fort. My FAVORITE is home-baked, Gogo's Cinnamon Rolls by Piggly Wiggly.
• 15 minutes from one of the most picturesque and popular waterfall hikes in North Carolina - Catawba Falls.
• 20 minutes from grocery stores and much more in Black Mountain.
• 25 minutes from the nearest Blue Ridge Parkway entrance.
• 35 minutes from downtown Asheville.
• 35 minutes from the entrance of Biltmore Estate.

We would love to host you! Please consider purchasing travel insurance when you reserve your dates, as we do stick to our cancellation policy and do not make exceptions.

Guests will have full access to everything in the cottage.

Please be aware of the following hazards for children:

• Unfenced yard with direct access to the creek and the sliding rock, acres of dense woods, and native animals (bobcats, bears, snakes, etc.)
• A staircase that does not have a baby gate.
• Furniture that is not mounted to the wall and may tip over (dressers and bookcases).
• Outlets without covers.

By requesting to book, you are agreeing to full responsibility and liability for all children present during your stay and agree that they will be monitored by a responsible adult at all times.

You do not need AWD or 4WD, but our driveway is steep. If you aren't comfortable with that, we do have a flat parking area on the right side of the road just past the cottage.

Security - We have Arlo cameras facing the front/back stairwell to the house, and the parking pad. These are our only security cameras and is there to protect our cottage, as well as your belongings during your stay. We will not access this camera during bookings unless in case of an emergency.

Guest access
You'll have access to the entire property, as well as the neighborhood hiking trail, Lake George, and the Standing Rock Waterfalls.
