The Space:
Gold Fields by Tiny Away is located in a rural area of the Golden Plains Shire, only 16 minutes from Ballarat and other attractions such as the Ballarat Tramway Museum, Enfield State Park, Bluestone Cafe, and Such N Such Cafe are a few of the recommended attractions our vacationers enjoy.
A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers) for you to use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're booking for a group, we also have "Golden Plains and Gold Meadows," available with 24 hours' notice, ensuring you have even more cozy holiday homes to enjoy.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and its surrounding areas, except the land host's private residence.

Gold Fields by Tiny Away sits in a small town in Golden Plains Shire near Ballarat, Victoria. Where you can enjoy scenic views, natural parks, bushwalking, and bike riding trails. You can also visit some of our local favourites such as Ballarat Tramway Museum, Bluestone Cafe, and Such N Such Cafe.
Meet native Australian animals at Ballarat Wildlife Park, or hike the bushland trails of Enfield State Park and Boden’s Water Race. Don’t miss Nimmons Bridge, an impressive historic timber trestle and the fourth tallest of its kind in Victoria.
For active visitors, the Ballarat Walking Trails offer 22 picturesque routes for hiking and cycling, including paths around Lake Wendouree and the famed Goldfields Track.
Getting Around:
By car:
- 8 km drive to and from Smythsdale
- 17min (or 18km) drive to and from Ballarat
- 1 hr and 40 min (or 138 km) drive from Melbourne
By public transport:
- Train or bus from Melbourne to Ballarat train station are available, or you can take an Uber or taxi to the property
- Please note that bus runs from general store on Tuesday and Thursday
Other Things to Note:
- No smoking allowed on the property
- Firewood costs $25 per wheel burrow load
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Good mobile reception for Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone
- Expect other guests as there are two holiday homes on-site
- BBQ grills and outdoor fire pit available, except total fire bans
- Please do not enter animal paddocks or yards without the land host's permission
- Please note that we have a pet dog, an old horse, 7 sheep, and 2 dams on our property
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Guest Advisory
- No pets allowed until electric fence is built to prevent neighbor's dogs from coming into the property
- Please advise that there will be some animal and tractor noise during your stay with us as we are a working farm that cares for animals and crops.
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain our cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
