For an authentic stay in somewhere truly unique this is a perfect choice, immerse yourself in a holiday like no other. Stepping inside the cottage named after Lady De Seton, you are greeted by a unique and fabulous open plan living area, with dramatic high beamed ceilings, your eyes are drawn along the full length of the room to the feature fireplace complete with a wood burning stove. The kitchen is bespoke and has been hand crafted, there are exposed stone walls, and you really feel the heritage and character of the original building. On the ground floor you have the master double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and upstairs a twin bedroom under the eaves. On the ground floor, guests will discover that the bathroom is also accessed from the corridor as well as the bedroom, much like a jack and jill bathroom. Perfect for a romantic break away for couples, as well as small families or groups of friends looking for somewhere special. Follow the footsteps across the stone floors where once a Norman Hunting Lodge stood. Discover the links to Robert the Bruce and how the De Seaton family supported this Scottish warrior, as well as how former resident Sir Francis Bigod rebelled against King Henry VIII who famously destroyed the monastery at Whitby Abbey.
Seaton Hall has a fascinating past, the hall was named after the de Seton dynasty who resided from 1130 to 1307 and whose family made allegiances with and marriages to the Scottish Royal family. Passed down through generations, before slipping into disrepair. The present owner purchased the estate in 2002. He has employed a team of specialist masons and craftsmen and has been lovingly rebuilding and restoring this incredible place of local heritage.
The area offers walking trails including the Cleveland Way leading across the cliff tops. Many pretty coastal villages such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay as well as Staithes. The historical seafaring town of Whitby delights guests with its cobbled old town, boat trips and the iconic Abbey ruins. Saltburn is a surfer’s paradise, with a beautiful Victorian pier. You can take a trip on the steam train across the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking in the views and visiting some beautiful villages along the way. For children you can ride the miniature train in Ruswarp before hiring a boat to row along the river. This is sure to be a stay to remember, twined with history, culture and the surrounding countryside. Beach 1 mile. Shop ½ mile, pub 0.7 miles and restaurant 100 yards.
