“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there someday.”
A.A. Milne, in Winnie the Pooh
Sunny riverfront 4 BR, 2BA with wrap-around deck, peaceful views, paddling, hiking, world-class fishing, abundant bird life, in central Pennsylvania.
The space
With many beautiful and little-known covered bridges, Amish farms, real farmers' markets, and one of the few remaining drive-in movies in the United States, this area in central PA is almost a step back in time. The house is close to the charming village of Selinsgrove, to Bucknell University, Susquehanna University, at least 13 vineyards, thousands of acres of state forest lands for hiking, and glorious, rolling fields of corn in the heart of summer. Only a few yards from the river, it has lots of light and a warm, simple feeling. Family meals are a pleasure in the sun room that overlooks the river. There are two floors one large bedroom with full bed on first floor, one large bedroom with full bed on second, and two other bedrooms upstairs, one with two twins, one with one. The guest limit of four reflects the capacities of the very old septic system. The lot has plenty of parking space and can easily accommodate four cars. Minimum stay is five nights and longer stays preferred. We routinely see bald eagles (there are at least two nesting pairs on the islands), kingfishers, mergansers, swallows, herons, orioles, song sparrows, nuthatches, egrets, and many other birds. There are deer on the islands, sometimes wading across river channels. In the state forests, we have seen black bears and many wild turkeys, hawks, woodpeckers. Sunsets and sunrises over the river are particularly beautiful.
Other things to note
I go up there to write--it is a great writer's retreat.
