Difficult access, comfortable stay otherwise

Our main-floor room was accessed by going through a very tight hallway with 2 very heavy firedoors which were difficult to open and in quick succession, making it feel like a bit of an obstacle course. Very difficult to manage the luggage cart. For our second load of luggage, we ended up going in and unlocking the sliding glass door to patio and bringing in luggage through the patio. Bathroom was due for some maintenance-- grout needed work and the threshold between carpeted room and tiles bathroom was missing, leaving a ragged carpet edge between the rooms which was strange. Otherwise a nice room and comfortable

While the staff were very friendly, we felt overall it was a let down for the Hilton. We were unaware at time of booking that the room we booked and paid significant money for would not be the one advertised in the photos e.g ground level , no bathtub instead a very dated and somewhat dirty shower and shower curtain. Further more we received towels on the second day with holes in them…the hairdryer didn’t work and sounded as though it was about to blow up at any point and our bed sheets over the two days - at check in and even after a cleaning service had dirty stains on them. We also dined at the restaurant on our first evening and waited 40 minutes after ordering or drinks to receive them..the food itself was lovely and can’t fault that at all. As it was booked for a birthday getaway we just felt a little let down by the experience at a renowned chain and for the money we paid.

Not a great experience. No bell boy was present so we had to take our luggage’s ourselves. Overall experience wasn’t the greatest considering the price they charge. It felt like we have checked into a motel rather than a hotel.

We stayed at this hotel during our visit to Lake Taupo on our 10-day road trip around the North Island! The Hotel was immaculate and the staff impeccable! The Hotel’s location was only a short car ride to the CBD, but the views of Lake Taupo from our room made up for that…stunning! We ate a few meals in the attached restaurant and all the meals were outstanding! We were also always able to get one of the tables with lake views! We were only able to visit one of the local Wineries (Mission Estate) because it was Easter Sunday. The wines were very good, and we ended up buying a few bottles. Hope to be back on our future world travels! Free parking!

Helpful Housekeeping

The housekeeping staff text daily to make sure you were happy with everything and if you needed anything extra. They did a wonderful job of keeping our apartment clean during our 3 night stay. The only negative was the wear and tear in the carpets, we felt they needed to be replaced in some areas.

We booked a lake facing superior room, with a balcony. We had a ground room and the view was covered by the hotel bushes and trees, we couldnt see the lake. The door had the rubber guard half peeled off the outside door, there was animal urine on our balcony. We found a necklace in the bathroom, there was black mold in the bathroom shower and the ceiling paint was peeling. Superficial things like scuff marks on the walls and chunks of plaster from the walls. HOWEVER, The duty manager was great and very understanding, she listened to my concerns and i NEVER complain. She had the cleaning crew come within 15 mins, they fixed the issued inside the room, they didnt have cleaning equipment for the urine outside so that was left as it was. The duty manager advised me she couldnt refund as i booked 3rd party but made accommodations where she could which i definitely appreciated. Whilst this was not a pleasant stay i appreciate the duty managers efforts to try to turn it around for us given we stayed 1 night.
