Guide for tourists.

Finding the hotel was the first problem. The car-nav would only accept Crown Hotel Watton. So we had a wasted extra trip. The host at Watton told us it happens repeatedly. The room was dark but could be lightened somewhat by standing on the bed to reach a switch. Every time I sat down the chair threatened to fall apart. The sockets were at floor level. The switches to control shower were at ceiling level. The meal was fairly good but let down by other details.

Lovely one night stay

This is a really beautifully kept and charming pub hotel. We had a room on the 2nd floor (i believe) with a view of the street. As a 17th century building it does have slightly steep stairs and some quaint low doorframes. We stayed for one night but I'd be happy to stay there for more than that if I'm in the area again. The pictures of the room were accurate. It was warm in winter even though heating was off. It was well kept and clean, the beds were comfortable, and the ensuite bathroom brand new and very clean (the gents in the pub downstairs a slightly different story! But the pub itself was very nice). - Doors at the rear are left open should you want to come back in late at night. - Breakfast was a generous full English. - The room also had a kettle with some complementary tea and coffee sachets, and there was also a decent hair drier. - Parking might be a touch limited if you arrive at the wrong time as it seems to be shared with pub customers but you might he able to find somewhere nearby in a pinch.
