If you wish to go further afield try an open top bus trip or take a scenic boat trip to Waterhead, Ambleside or Lakeside. For the more energetic a walk up to ’Orrest Head’ offers spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Bowness has a lively café culture, a wide selection of restaurants, bars, independent small shops and an Art Deco cinema.

Originating as a police station and jail in 1843 and extended in 1858 to include the courthouse.
