We’re from Chicago & we bopped over to Blarney Island for Memorial Day. This hotel, although extremely basic, is 100% better than the motel we stayed at last year.

Old Gem heading downhill.

We come once or twice a year to visit family in Antioch and like the convenience of staying in town. Over the years the property has gone from a branded one to owner operated and gone through at least one change in owners. The property has solid bones, but even those are showing signs of wear. That would not be half as bad if the rate weren't at a premium, @ $200/night. We try to support the property by getting a night cap after a day of family activities. They have a Full Service Bar in the lobby. This past time not only did they not even come over and ask for our order, but when I asked the Bar Tender if we could order her answer was, only if you come up to the bar. Which I did. I placed our order and the Bar Tender said she had never made a Manhattan, but would look it up. I watched and she put 1 oz of Rye, requested by us, 2.5 oz of Sweet Vermouth, which I had to identify for her, and added "a pour of Bitters", not a Dash, but a pour. I stopped her as she was about to add 2 more pours of bitters. Needless to say we thanked her for the drinks went to our table and had a few sips of a bottle of water we brought in in our bags from the day. We paid for the two drinks and returned them to the bar. If you are going to advertise a Full Service Bar on the property it should be one. Our Room needed new furniture at the very least. The couch was so worn and old that the vinyl on it was cracking and flaking off.

Kids can’t use hot tub

They are very strict on not allowing kids to use the hot tub, even if you are the only ones there and will say something. Honestly not relaxing at all when

Property is clean, rooms are clean and spacious. Staff is polite and professional. We stay there every couple of months. Love the bar and the pool. Ashley, Ray Sean and the front desk receptionist (who had a broken ankle a couple of months ago) are rock stars. They are the main reasons we come back.
