Our carefully designed mountain retreat is the quintessential outdoor getaway, central to many of the adventures found under Colorado's expansive skies. Perfect for family/friends fun, couples’ ski retreats, visits to Purgatory (55min) & Wolf Creek (85min) ski resorts, with Vallecito Lake just a short walk away, and other activities for up to 6 guests!

The Surroundings
Located on perfectly appointed wooden & shaded property, you’ll have plenty of space for sprawling out and enjoying the fresh mountain air in privacy. Get ready to take in clear night skies full of brilliant constellations from the back-patio hot tub— whether it’s a cold winter night or a fresh summer evening.

The Amenities
The Bear's Den is fully equipped to be your home-away-from-home. The kitchen is furnished with high-end appliances, granite countertops, and of course, all you need for coffee each morning! Enjoy your meals together around the dining room table or take it to the back patio for an epic barbecue.

*Wifi is available but due to our rural location it can often have service disruptions. We cannot guarantee WiFi throughout your stay. Verizon is the only carrier for phone service here at Vallecito Lake.*

After hiking/snowshoeing around Vallecito Lake or skiing down a mountain, settle into the family room for a movie night. This comfy space includes a flatscreen TV with streaming access and live TV via Hulu Live and WiFi. (A note about WiFi: because our area does not have fiber internet, outages can happen, after all, we are in rural Colorado! But don't you worry, we have a lot of DVDs perfect for all ages. As well as Verizon is the only true phone provider that is reliable).

Or pour some hot cocoa and gather around the backyard fire pit or in the hot tub, looking out at the expansive skies. It’s especially idyllic when snow is falling softly! Colorado is where rolling plains meet the Rocky Mountains, and we captured that in our decor, using classic rustic details to complement an ideal stay.

Bedrooms include a master with a king bed with a custom ceiling flat-screen TV. Sleep two more in the second bedroom with a queen bed. Additionally, we provide an air mattress or the comfy sectional couch to sleep two more. With one full bathroom, there is plenty of space for everyone to keep up with daily routines before hitting the slopes or taking a trip into Durango.

Heading Into Town
While The Bear's Den feels just the right amount of secluded, you’re still only 20 miles away from downtown Durango (25 mins). Vallecito Lake boat launch ramp is only 2 miles out and is home to many outdoor adventures like fishing, boating, and every water sport imageable. While you’re here, be sure to check out some fantastic hiking trails, including Vallecito Creek Trail, Raiders Ridge Lookout, Shearer Creek Trail, First Fork, Red Creek Loop Trail, and more.
