This listing should be removed due to excessive puffery and serious safety concerns. We arrived at night with minimal lighting and had to navigate over 100 poorly maintained stairs in near darkness. The dim solar lights on the path are inadequate, and the railings are unsafe. While the houseboat's interior is decent, the exterior and surrounding property are in disrepair. The dock and floaters are dangerously dilapidated. The water tastes like rubber due to a 500-foot hose instead of proper plumbing. The dock, supposedly for lake views, was surrounded by boats and dirty chairs covered in bird droppings. The hot tub is “shared” and located up at the main house. I nearly tripped on exposed nails going down to the boat. We stayed only one night due to the late hour, but left by 9 AM. At 300/night, this place is unacceptable. The holding tank hadn’t been pumped since July and the bathroom smelled awful. The owner was unhelpful upon arrival, hiding in her house with lights off and offering no assistance. Communication was poor before and after booking and my inquiry about previous bad reviews went unanswered—until we arrived when I was told those reviews were from people who “broke the rules.” The tone of nearly every message from the host is about rules and fines. I reached out to VRBO but only got canned AI responses. This is a confrontational host with no regard for guest safety or service. I've reported them to Mecklenburg County. Pics fail to show reality.
