The Lodge at Kiftsgate Court Gardens

Renovated in Spring 2020, this cosy cottage is part of the Kiftsgate estate in the north Cotswolds. Kiftsgate Court Gardens and Hidcote Gardens are walking distance away for visits over the spring and summer months and over autumn and winter you can take in the beautiful views over the countryside as you walk to either Ilmington or Ebrington and enjoy a pub lunch and a well deserved drink. Chipping Campden and Broadway are 15 and 20 mins away by car and Stratford-upon-Avon is also 20 mins away.

It's special to stay by the wonderful Kiftsgate gardens with its beautiful flowers and trees and happy surprises around corners and with a lovely view of the lower garden. We visited it each day for over an hour in rain and clouds and sun. We also enjoyed other walks from the door including through the sheep pasture and past Hidcote. There are some nice thatched roofed cottages in the area, horses, wandering hens, and lots of sheep, lovely vista views. In case it's helpful to know what to bring -- there was no laundry soap, no shampoo or soap, no milk, and we needed to clean out many spiders and their webs out of the tub on arrival. Rob was good about responding to some problems during our stay. Very kind and helpful.

Exceptional

The lodge was even better than advertised — spacious rooms, comfortable, well-furnished kitchen, clean, quiet, great location. The gardens are beautifully sculptured on a hill — what a bonus — and are a 10-minute walk from Hidcote Gardens, a wonderful National Trust property. We loved the walks in the Cotswolds and this location was perfect. We drove to Stratford (20 minutes) for a Royal Shakespeare performance of Othello, and the Lodge was accessible by train to/from Oxford, Bath and London. Ron Chambers was a very responsive host. Can’t say enough about this. We’d love to give a rating that is better than 5.

A quintessential English country stay!

A well supplied old English country stay. Unsophisticated in general (as in “country”) but with luxurious beds, curtains and surroundings; which is how “quintessential” above applies. Very pleasant, extremely responsive and helpful owner. We would certainly stay again on our bi annual trips here from Canada.

Brilliant Stay at The Lodge at Kiftsgate Court Gardens

We had an absolutely fantastic time. The Lodge was spotlessly clean. Everything was catered for. Fabulous location for exploring the Cotswolds. Staff were helpful. Knowledgeable and friendly. A must see is the Estate’s magnificent gardens. Do yourself a favour and stay there, you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely cottage

We had a wonderful week at the Lodge, a lovely cottage in the Cotswolds. It was spacious and well decorated. We especially liked the cosy livingroom with the fireplace. We slept very well because of the beds, the fresh countryair and the quiet. During the day we made trips to villages in the neighborhood, Oxford and a manor and its park and went for a walk in the vicinity.

Lovely Peaceful Break

The Lodge is a beautiful, cosy, idyllic base for exploring the charming surrounding countryside. The beds are extremely comfortable and the cottage is spacious, well equipped and very clean. My mother and I only stayed for three days and three nights but it was enough for a recharge of the batteries. Kiftsgate Court Gardens (literally at the end of the road) is a treat for the soul. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would both definitely return. Rob the host was very helpful and easy to get hold of, as was his cheerful father. Highly recommended; you can't go wrong here if you are looking for natural beauty and serenity. Thanks so much for a perfect mini break!

Beautiful house and location for a peaceful break

Luxury accommodation with well equipped kitchen and all other amenities. We came to paint in the Kiftsgate Court Court gardens which were closed to the public but fortunately we were able to access them on Friday.

Comfortable Cotswolds Accommodation

We enjoyed our stay at The Lodge Kiftsgate. The beds were very comfortable. Accommodations very clean. All essentials were available. It was delightful sitting in the yard after exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. Rob not only communicated well, he even popped in when we arrived. The bonus was the beautiful Kiftsgate gardens right there. We would highly recommend this location.

WE HAD A WONDERFUL STAY!!

If you’re staying in the Cotswolds, the Lodge at Kiftsgate Court Gardens and its environs can’t be beat. The house is an historic gem. You get a sense of what is was like to live here centuries ago, but with the comforts of the 21st century. It has been exceptionally maintained, and the recent renovation makes the home very comfortable with all modern amenities, including strong WiFi. It was impeccably clean. Luxurious linens and towels are provided. The beds were dream-inducing comfortable. A large bathroom has a full length tub with a gorgeous view of the fields typical of the region. In the mornings, we’d take our coffee from the sizable, updated kitchen with dining area to sit outside in the hedge-enclosed garden, enjoying the baa-ing of the sheep and the coo-ing of the mourning birds. Near the garden door, we discovered a lemon balm shrub to use in afternoon tea. We visited when the temperatures were beginning to rise into the record-breaking heat wave. But the house is kept cool by the very thick plaster walls and high ceilings. Rob kept up excellent communications with us, with good instructions at the house, including places to catch a meal in the area. He was promptly responsive to our questions. In short, he made everything easy to settle-in quickly and to get our bearings. The location is magical. While nestled in the quintessential Cotswold countryside, it’s also on the grounds of one of the most beautiful botanical gardens I’ve ever seen, the Kiftsgate Court Gardens. And the sheep-dotted vistas from this vantage point are stunning. Rob provides tickets for free entry. You can catch lunch or afternoon tea there too! Adjacent to the property is access to walking paths. Rob provides laminated surveyor’s maps which are necessary for hiking the region. On our first evening hike there, an owl greeted us with a swoop across our path. Words cannot describe adequately the glorious views from these walks. Sometimes they will take you along sheep paths where you can almost reach out and pet the sheep who use them. You can even hike to a nearby hamlet or town for a meal at a pub or restaurant. There’s easy access surrounding towns by car. During our short stay, we visited Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, delightful Chipping Campden, and Broadway for fine shopping (including Cotswold Chocolates and the Distillery). I strongly recommend Rob’s property. I would stay here again!

Magnificent Kiftsgate Court Gardens

We had visited Kiftsgate as day visitors on a previous year in late August and we're keen to see it in high summer, so we were delighted to find that there were properties available to rent there. We visited in July for our wedding anniversary week. Originally we had booked the Lodge, which is near the entrance to the estate, however there was an unexpected maintenance problem with the property the week we were due to stay so we agreed to stay at an alternative property, next to the garden. This review is for The Courtyard property, rather than The Lodge. The Courtyard property is located overlooking the magnificent garden, with a fabulous view of the Vale of Evesham. We had brilliant sunsets and a good view of the planting in the garden from our lounge window. The property was very clean and well furnished, and the beds were extremely comfortable. We only used the main bedroom but the others looked just as nice. Parking is available in the courtyard which is near the public toilets if you know this garden. We always had a space available to us for park. One of the main benefits from being there was access to the garden during opening hours (not all days are opening days) where we could wander freely. There may be a few challenges for the less mobile, the property is accessed by a flight of stairs to bring you to the first floor which is where the main living accommodation is located. However there is a good banister to help you up the steps. On the first floor there is a lovely kitchen, a dining room which we didn't need as there's also a table in the kitchen, a living room and a shower room with a toilet and basin. There are a couple of steps between the kitchen and the living room on this floor. Then there's another flight of steepish stairs, with a handrail, to take you to the bedrooms and the bathroom on the second floor which has a bath, toilet, basin and handheld shower attachment. The view from the main bedroom is amazing! There is no private dedicated garden space for this property, however you are free to use the picnic bench on the grass area near to the car park if you would like to. There was a really nice TV but no DVD sadly which they did have in the lodge. We were blessed with lovely weather and we're able to spend some time outdoors in the garden and in the local area. The Owners son Rob, was very helpful and did his best to make us comfortable in the alternative location.

Quiet, Private Lodge.

Before arriving at the Lodge we were told there was a leak in the shower and the plumber could not fix it straight away. The owners offered us an alternative accommodation and although this was a lovely property it was not to our taste. We requested to stay at the Lodge and agreed for the plumber to fix the shower whilst we stayed there. We were not disappointed with our decision. The Lodge is quiet, private and feels like a home from home. It is spacious but has a cosy feel. It is ideally situated as a base to explore the surrounding area. Visit the gardens you will not be disappointed and you can even purchase the plants you like. The Kings Arms in Mickleton serves excellent food with good customer service, friendly locals and well behaved dogs, we visited several times. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay again. The only thing we would suggest would be to insert mirrors in the bedrooms, one over the fireplace the other over the chest of drawers so as they could be used when styling/drying your hair. Finally thank you very much to the owner Rob, you were very helpful without being intrusive.

I relished my stay at Kiftsgate Lodge

I relished my short stay at Kiftsgate Lodge. I was mesmerised by my sublimely beautiful surroundings. Kiftsgate Garden is an exquisite garden and enjoys extraordinary views. (as an avid gardener) it was inspiring to visit Kiftsgate Garden in June when the garden is in full bloom, however, I've no doubt that it retains it's great charm and allure throughout year. I will definitely be returning to visit Kiftsgate Garden again and would highly recommend a stay at Kiftsgate Lodge!

Perfect Cotswold Charm

My husband, adult daughter, and I had a superlative stay at The Lodge. The house itself is like something out of an English novel with its boxwood hedges, honey-colored stone, and elegant-but-cozy interior. We enjoyed the sitting at the table and chairs in the secluded garden with our coffee on sunny mornings, or a glass of wine on quiet afternoons. The kitchen is well-equipped for the kind of cooking you want to do when you're on holiday, but there is a Cuisinart and a perfect table for rolling out dough if you're feeling ambitious. The bedrooms are light and airy, and just opening the lead-glass windows with their iron rods transports you to another century. And open the windows you will want to do--the wind gently blows in the scent of whatever is blooming that day, accompanied by what I call the the sheep symphony from the neighboring sheep farms. There is no denying that you are deep into the most wonderful experience of the English countryside. The beds were the best of our month long stay in England; delightfully plush with superior quality sheets and duvet. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, closets, and bedside tables with electrical outlets nearby for charging phones at night. The house is located on the grounds of the magnificent Kiftsgate Court Gardens. Just stroll down the road and take in their beauty and the view of the surrounding area. It is well-situated for exploring much of the Cotswolds, and is a 20 minute drive to the train station in Moreton-in-Marsh. Hidcote Garden is a 5 minute walk away, and you can even walk the mile through the fields to Mickelton for dinner at the King's Arms. Rob was a thoughtful, attentive, polite, and extremely responsive host. Check-in was at our convenience and he was available by text for any questions. We were greeted with a bottle of prosecco and flowers from the garden, along with helpful information for activities and restaurants. He even provided dishwasher tabs and extra bin-liners, which is quite a help when you're traveling internationally. We can't recommend him or our stay highly enough! Thank you, Rob!

A Winning Court Appearance

We were chuffed to find the listing for such promising accommodations in a Cotswold area far from our usual holiday haunts there. By time we departed we were even more delighted by our choice of the Lodge. It was the perfect venue to introduce our granddaughter to glories of the English countryside, including Kiftsgate Court Garden itself. Our first impressions of the imposing cottage were both of awe and bewilderment. Its situation behind a sculpted hedge along a pebble drive was very picturesque. Yet from the listing we were uncertain whether we had reserved a flat or the entire cottage. How could it be the latter given its substantial size, noble appearance, and reasonable rate? Upon entry we were thrilled to find it was indeed all ours. To boot it had been nicely modernised, well decorated, and tastefully appointed. Everything we needed in the kitchen and elsewhere was thoughtfully on hand in excellent nick. Very comfortable beds and quality linens, too. Imagine, a really dependable Wi-Fi system! If only it had not taken us Yanks two chilly nights to think to turn on the radiators. We cherished Kiftsgate’s tranquil setting and lovely grounds. Nearby public footpaths and unbusy roadways made roaming about a treat. Rob, our amiable host, readily popped in to make us feel right at home.. We appreciated the welcoming goodies he left that further brightened spirits after our long flight and drive from Heathrow.

Lovely stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the property. It was very clean and we loved the property; we didn’t want to leave! Rob was great and kept us updated with anything that was relevant for our stay. Will definitely be coming back
