I love these old heritage hotels and this didnt disappoint - very atmospheric and a whos who of famous people have stayed - nice friendly staff, nice pool, had a big sea view balcony room

i was upgraded, thanks to Expedia, to a suite on the 4th (top) floor, which was amazing. When I arrived at the hotel at 1 a.m., the lobby and my suite initially felt a tad worn. Wow. i don't why I had that impression -- the hotel property and my suite were beautiful. And I loved all the history. Having a drink in the bar and looking at the pictures of illustrious former guests over the past 160 years is inspiring, if intimidating. I mean, Chekov stayed there! I had great ocean views (I would think most rooms do), tons of space, and lots of comfort. Breakfast was amazing, and well worth a nominal extra charge. I enjoyed the large salt water pool and just wandering around the hallways and grounds. There is no elevator to the 4th floor -- you need to walk up from the 3rd -- so maybe don't stay on that level if stairs are an issue. Hotel location is pretty good too. Near a number of shopping and eating options, and steps from Galle Green, which is fun to wander around. In sum, great stay at a historic hotel. .

Colonial Lanka at it's finest!

The best welcome to Sri Lanka is to walk through the doors of Galle Face hotel. To be greeting by the concierge who has been there for over 50 years. The rooms are charming and you feel like you are in bygone era. The breakfast buffet is simply divine - especially when you get to enjoy it on the greatest verandah in Colombo. We cannot wait to come back and enjoy!

It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed around the world. Staff are extremely helpful and always smiling. Reception has recognized my platinium member status and made upgrade at the highest possible level. When and if in Colombo again this is the hotel to stay.

I have always loved staying at Galle Face hotel but this time I was a little disappointed The standard seems to have slipped a bit The service was not as good as it was before and the room amenities were not so good. I was also quite disappointed with the breakfast which used to be one of the best. Though the variety was there but not the taste

Galle Face Hotel retains its old charm in the face of soulless yet newer 5/7star hotels in the vicinity. Please retain that old charm GFH, that’s what sets you out as unique. All staff such great ambassadors, courteous and helpful.

A good location within walking distance of town along parkland and sea front. Good breakfast buffet, great pool, outside bar and restaurant. The Regency sea view room was a little tired and hot water in shower not good. Old room key system, so had to leave and pick up from reception.

Nice traditional hotel which is at a good location. However, the really small beach strip is not allowed to be used. The whole place is really old and needs lots of maintenance.

Had a wonderful time at Galle Face Hotel in Colombo. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the views of the ocean were just breathtaking. The room was comfortable and clean, and the food was delicious. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka. Highly recommend it!

A beautiful traditional hotel in a prime situation

This is a beautiful traditional hotel with lots of memorabilia from famous people who have stayed there. It is spacious and comfortable with many choices of restaurants serving a variety of foods. The only downside is in wet weather many outdoor tables/seating aren’t usable. We particularly enjoyed the high tea and watching the criminal lowering of the flag at dusk. All staff members are courteous and friendly.
