## Emplacement
Fréjus has preserved a large number of monuments from its past. In fact, with 2,000 years of history, this Var town of Art and History boasts a significant historical and architectural heritage. The Roman remains are the oldest traces of its past, and include an amphitheatre, a theater and an aqueduct, of which a few pillars and arcades remain. Dating back to the end of the Iᵉʳ century, the arenas could accommodate nearly 12,000 spectators who came to watch gladiatorial combat! In the old town, the Fréjus Episcopal Group, built between the Vᵉ and 16th centuries, is also part of this remarkable heritage. It brings together the beautiful Saint-Léonce cathedral, with its Romanesque bell tower and two naves linked by several arcades. But also the octagonal baptistery dating from the Vᵉ century, one of the oldest in France, the episcopal palace transformed into the town hall, as well as the Romanesque cloister, whose wooden ceiling has been decorated with real or imaginary characters and animals. Adjacent to the cloister is the Archaeological Museum, home to magnificent antique sculptures excavated in the Roman town.
