Oceanfront, dog-friendly condo with ocean view, pool & central AC

Lose the shoes at beautiful Flip Flop Island. Located in the oceanfront Durant Station complex, Flip Flop Island is the perfect place to begin your love affair with Hatteras Island. This second-floor, upscale home is designed for life on the beach. If you choose, elevator access will deliver your guests, luggage, and groceries to your floor. The queen bedroom has laminate wood floors, a TV, and access to a semi-private bath (hall access) with a tub/shower. The full-size kitchen has tile floors, solid surface countertops, a breakfast island, a microwave, an oven, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and ocean views. The oceanfront living area has comfortable resort furniture with a sleeper sofa, a TV and DVD player, HBO, and DirecTV. Head outside to the furnished oceanfront deck with postcard views. Flip Flop Island welcomes one dog, so every family member can come along!

At ground level, you will find a large fish-cleaning station, grills, and picnic tables. Elevator service is available to all levels. Just grab a luggage cart from the first-floor coin-operated laundry facility and roll your luggage to your condo door. Additional community amenities include high-speed internet and free WiFi, a community pool (available May to Labor Day), a hot tub (available from April to November), and an outdoor shower. The Durant Station Community Center is topped by the historic tower from the original Durant Lifesaving Station. This is the ideal location for corporate meetings, wedding parties, or for enjoying the space with family and friends. This area boasts a first-floor sitting room with a large flatscreen TV, an electric fireplace (available November to March), and an upper-level game room with a pool table and a complete kitchen.

THINGS TO KNOW
This home has access to a community pool, the community pools in our area are typically open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Community pools are operated at the discretion of the community HOA so the availability schedule may be subject to change without notice.
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check-in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.

the view of the ocean from the 2nd floor accommodation was super.The rooms were satisfactory for two. The TV was difficult. We could only figure out how to get just one station....disappointing.The cleaning person had done a good job.Overall it was fine.

Location was 5 *. Pool was open for us to enjoy 5*. Balcony view 5*. Elevator worked, & Pet friendly 5*. Couch in Living room 4*. Ice maker didnt work, yet ice trays froze fast. Needed some extra TLC. Vacasa was willing to take care of the little details. We asked for them to do it between tenants. Great customer service. Live Web cam of surf & pool 5*, great for family to see us.

Beautiful place, amazing week

We spent the first week of May in this one bedroom unit Great size for a week, nicely set up and decorated, kitchen had everything ( even kitchen scissors). The deck looks out on the pool, the dune, the shoreline, ocean and skyline. My partner spent mornings bicycling around the area. People we met, tourists like us and locals, were lovely. We are thankful for a beautiful stay on a still uncrowded ocean beach. Glorious! The screen door screen was torn apart and useless. I contacted Vaccassa but never heard back.

overall is ok

The condo is clean, and everything meets my expectation except that it had a thin summer blanket. There were cold 3 out of 5 days. we slept with thick clothes on. We requested thick blankets, but never showed up.

Comfortable place right on the beach

Great location, loved spending time on the balcony. Comfortable space for 2 plus dog. Could use a though cleaning, you could see dark dust around the vent grates and ceiling fan blades. Could use a hair dryer, kitchen towels and a dust pan to go with the brooms.

Not impressed

Upon arrival, my key was not left in the drop box and the office was not even supposed to be closed but was so I had to call and have someone bring me the key. The condo smelt so bad I had to buy candles. The bed was hard as a rock. I never seen one luggage cart. I was told it was OK for my parents (who were vacationing the same time as me close by) to come have dinner but the lady that worked at the condo building gave us such bad looks in the parking lot that my mom was too nervous her car would get towed. I had to check out early due to flooding on highway 12 around the condo area and suffered flood damage to my car. Definitely a flip flop vacation. I seen roaches on the balcony, possums in the parking lot and crabs in the pool. I will NOT be staying here again.

Disappointed

The location was wonderful with a beautiful view, private pool, and easy beach access. We knew it was pet friendly and thought that was nice. We did not bring any pets. The condo presented as pictured in VRBO. Our dissatisfactions were with the lack of communication and response time. Our check in was 9/13/21 on the morning of 9/14/21 I spoke with a representative from Hatteras realty explaining the TV in sitting area did not work, that there there were no batteries in the remote controls, and I switched batteries from bedroom remote and that did not solve the problem. I also advised her that closet contained wobbled up blankets thrown on top of the shelf and pillows laying on the floor. Her response to that was that the blankets and pillows were not their responsibility and probably left by previous renters. She said she would complete an email to the Hatteras office and ask them to look into it. On 9/15 I had no response from anyone and went to the Hatteras Office and the manager provided batteries and said he would contact someone to fix the TV. On 9/16 I Emailed Vacasa advising them of the condition of the condo and that after using a pillow which dropped on the floor while sleeping that I awoke with multiple bites which I believed to be flea bites on the L side of my neck. I also provided pictures of the floor that I swept which contained 1/2 inch black hairs. I was then contacted by Hatteras realty via phone stating they would get an exterminator and have the TV fixed. I was also offered a reduction of $125.00 in my bill since I had to complete cleaning. The TV was fixed on the 9/16. and the extermination was completed on 9/17. Our check out was 9/18. We would not go back to Durant Station again.

Relaxing

Everything met or exceeded expectations. A great pet friendly place to stay. I would have preferred a little more comfortable chairs in the sitting area rather than two futon type pieces. We would definitely visit and stay there again.

Didn’t like the late check in. We were told the place was being “cleaned and it wouldn’t be done until 4:00. Don’t think that was true. The girl at the real estate office came out right at 4pm to drop several keys in the key box. Check in is too late and check out is too early. Our stay was good and we enjoyed the beach.

Great location

Condo location and view excellent! Condo could have been a bit cleaner, mainly the floors needed a good mopping. Storage locker available for beach toys needs lock repaired so we just used a stick to brace door. Accessibility to beach made the trip!

We traveled from out of state. We could not bring all the supplies needed. I have used with my family VROB in the past and have never had nothing available in the rental. Two towels for two adults does not work. Linens very scarce makes it feel like a uncomfortable stay and makes the property appear to be less.

Avoid at all costs

My wife and I travel quite a bit, and this was our first time going to the OBX. This honestly one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had. The condo was dirty upon arrival - dog hair everywhere, sand on floor, etc. The bed was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. The sheets were very uncomfortable and coarse, and the only blanket in the entire unit was a worn, wine stained fleece. The internet was very spotty. The location was ok- nice beach, but nothing was really in walking distance. There are lockers to store your beach gear, but the latch on ours was broken off, so provided no real security. I attempted to contact the rental company multiple times to no avail. When I did finally get in touch with them, I told them the situation and asked for a new/another blanket (we already cleaned up the mess we walked into). The employee I spoke with was going to have one delivered to us, but when I told her we were about to leave for dinner, she asked if we could just swing by their office and grab it - mind you this is a few days after my initial inquiry.

Great to be Back

The stay was a great return for me after having been away from the OBX for 10 years and it was a great introduction to the OBX for my bride. Very comfortable and cozy. The drain plugs in the bathroom could have fit better but it was just a small inconvenience.

The location was great with beach access. The place could use a little personalization.

I like the idea of having our own space and privacy. I would like to see things such as toilet paper, dishwasher pods, etc. provided as it is difficult to bring and take what’s left when we’re flying. One towel per person is not adequate. I would suggest a rug and shoe location by the door, extra blankets that aren’t musty, hooks on the bathroom door for towels, robes, etc. hooks in the hallway for jackets, etc. more comfortable furniture and a coffee table, 2 end tables would be nice especially during this time of the year when more time is spent inside. There was a few areas that you could tell hadn’t been cleaned for a while. It could just really use some freshening up, new throw pillows, etc. overall we very much enjoyed our time there for the week. A relaxing, low key vacation hangout for a cool March.

The location was what I needed!

My stay at Flip Flop was excellent. Quiet at night. Loved the view to the ocean. Not a big fan of the big, aggressive mosquitoes though. Will come back again with my family. Thank you - this was a short but really needed vacation.

our stay

although the view was beautiful and we were close to the beach, there were a few things that need to be taken car of around here. The grills there was one decent grill out of five, the others are rusted, the utensils that were left seemed like they were used and never cleaned. The room we had needs a few repairs.
