We love The Empress Hotel and stay there every time we visit La Jolla. The rooms are spotless and the the breakfast room is delightful and the food is adequate for a free breakfast. Centrally located, with an extremely helpful staff, this is our home away from home!

Overall the room and reception staff was good. The major set back was the breakfast. The lady managing the breakfast was very rude to all of the guests and literally slammed the door on the face when it was 9.30. Also she was not refilling milk and other items though there was 10 to 15 mins left. Being in the hospitality industry this kind of service and behavior was appauling. Suggestion is to remove the breakfast service is such sub par and rude service is provided.

Great location. Nice desk staff. Problems with manager and even when I asked 3 times no one came to make up the bed. Someone finally came to do it while we were in the room. So awkward. Also they wanted to overcharge me for the pets. Good size room and super location 2 blocks from beach and in the center of everything. Good breakfast.

The service was not good at all! The general manager was not respectful and really had a hard time supporting us as a family with children. This hotel is really more for kid free travel. Also we had some issues with the room that were never resolved. Breakfast was good. Location was good if you want a chill, near the beach experience. Hotel restaurant was upscale, and not great for kids.
