I am unable to wrap my head around the customer reviews for this hotel. It’s an older property but not tastefully or sympathetically converted to a BandB. Trunking slapped to the walls everywhere, gaffer tape holding carpets together, to highlight a few ghastly ‘maintenance’ fixes.
Breakfast: The coffee at breakfast can only be only described as akin to tarmac surface water. Beyond foul!
Room: During our unfortunate stay we rejoiced in counting the residents above our room emptying their bowels, urinating, and vomiting all over the bathroom. Such was the soundproof-ness.
The mattresses are well used and we found divots to sleep in. The bathroom had all the charm of a hostel for the homeless!
Staff: The housekeeping/breakfast ladies were both thoroughly pleasant with us.
Hygiene: The accommodation was clean, for the amount of nooks and crannies, trunking, etc to clean the only dust I found was behind the headboards. Minor, minor, evidence of mould in the bathroom grout but in relation to the many hotels I use this can only be described as clean.
Excellent service, staff and room, a real hidden gem in the small village. People were so friendly and staff were helpful and room was very well stocked and looked lovely, will use again.
The location the room, staff and breakfast were all superb and would definitely return.
Beautiful big bath.
Only downsides were, accessing the room, if you have a pushchair then don’t bother!
Awkward steps
The fire alarm went off 4 times up until about 8.30pm ish (which isn’t ideal when trying to get a baby to sleep.
However lovely stay x
We stayed here for a short break . We felt welcomed from the minute we arrived . Excellent service from all staff . Lovely location as 5 mins walk from Sherwood Forest visitor centre .
Great choice of breakfasts and vast food menu to suit all - all reasonable priced .
The owners know how to look after their guests and you know they are are well liked and respected as the locals also drink in there
Will return Steve and Bridget ( room 2 )
The room was excellent with a surprising amount of space, clean and all the usual amenities you'd need. It was nice and quiet as it could be considering the adjacent road.
Both dinner options in the pub and breakfast in the restaurant on the other side were delicious with plenty of choice. At every stage the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.
Well done and thank you!

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Cleanliness
The room was musty smelling, had an ineffective heater. This meant the room was really cold all night. I wouldn't recommend
Nice play to both have breakfast and stay the night!

I stay in many hotels and have never experienced such poor standards
Reception took all his time to acknowledge my presence and was really unhelpful
Although a late booking heating had not been switched on prior my arrival so was very cold in the room
I always check reviews and can only assume these were done by family and friends as the expectations I had were nowhere near met
I checked out at 8.30 in the evening as despite my complaints the reception didn’t seem to care whether I stayed or not
I cannot beleive that an establishment can treat customers this way
In summary RUDE DIRTY COLD UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE DO NOT STAY THERE
I would like reimbursed for this if this can be arranged
We found the accomadation excellent and the staff could not do enough to ensure we had a good stay. The bar was very friendly and a good selection of beverages were available. We will definatley stay at Forest Lodge again
