The hotel is lovely from the outside, a great period property with a beautiful tree covered drive way and expansive gardens, however, this is where the impressive nature of the hotel ends I was booked into an executive room, I treated myself to a larger room as I was there for 2 nights. To call this executive’ makes me wonder what the rest of the rooms look like. The room was small, with dated worn furniture, an 80’s bathroom, cracked tiles, missing taps in the shower, and stains round the edge of the bath and toilet. The curtains were hanging off the rail, there’s were stains on the ceiling and room looked like it needed a good paint. This walls the second ‘executive’ room I was offered, and this was the lesser of two evils. For me, if you call a room ‘executive’ you need to have certain standards, one of the is you need to be able to walk up the sides of the bed with out a squeezing past the curtain and the window (think I may have discovered why the curtains are hanging off) The picture the hotel shows you of the rooms are nothing like the actually room. The website shows modern furniture, large padded headboards, usb charring points for phone etc. the reality is trying to plug your phone into the hidden port behind the beside table, which is impossible to move given the space between the bed and the wall….. the spiders webs made the whole experience even more nauseating. Reception were unable to anything for me, other than shrug.

Good value, friendly staff, clean common areas. Room functional. Nice bathroom with good shower. Heating in room poor - behind TV could not control temperature. Mattress very uncomfortable. Clean during stay mediocre, rubbish left on floor, glasses in bathroom not cleaned.

With this falling under the Signature collection for Best Western, my expectation levels were dsomewhat heightened. Fortunately, most were met. The setting for the hotel was picturesque. My room was quite close to reception with lovely, high ceilings and a nice layout. I used the onsite gym for a workout which was a room converted with some equipment and knowledge that it is barely used but was still able to provide a half decent workout. The shower was hilarious. There was a sign in the bathroom alluding to the age of the property and that hot water may take it's time to come through. They were not downplaying this at all as it took several minutes for the water to finally heat up. The bed was really comfy and allowed a good night's sleep. Breakfast was really good with a good range of cooked items and continental on a buffet system. Aside from the odd thing, it was a pleasant stay and I would stay there again.
