Holiday Ruined

the hotel is about 5mins by bus or cab/30 mins on foot from the train station, it's the very last hotel along the promenade. The staff appeared helpful enough, they told me they had me down for bed and breakfast, and handed me my room key. The room was small but not cramped, and, aside from a layer of dust on the kettle, (upturned) coffee cups and spoons, clean. Unfortunately, it was also right where their kitchen fan is, which produces a constant, vooming sound, throughout the day and night. It's a known fact among the hotel staff, as the receptionist immediately recognized it as soon as I told her my room number. She told me that there was no other room available, and suggested I bring this up with "Kathy" the next day, who could perhaps offer me a discount. I replied that I needed quiet to sleep, not a discount, but she just gave me a blank stare. The next day, "Kathy" told me that they have all kinds of fans ventilating their kitchen, as if that would make everything ok, but (just for the record) offered no discount. I think I got maybe 6 hours of sleep, at intervals, over 2 nights there. I took 8 nurofens to help with my headache, and, 2 days later, as I'm typing this, my sleeping pattern and fatigue still haven't sorted themselves out. I don't need to put anyone needlessly off, as long as you're not allocated that room, or any neighbouring ones, you may be able to enjoy your stay at this hotel. I, however, didn't. It was by far my most horrible hotel experience ever, a holiday I still regret (as it wasn't a relaxing time at all), and I wouldn't recommend that experience to anyone. ps.oh, that bed and breakfast they told me they had me down for when I checked in? they didn't. I was asked to pay extra when I showed up in the breakfast hall.
