Welcome to the Gilpin Street Chalet, by Mountain Vacation Lodging. For years, this vacation rental home has consistently earned praise for its exceptional location, style, space, and suitability for couples or families. Located just steps from downtown, shops & restaurants, the Yampa River, numerous trail systems, and the free to the Steamboat Ski Resort & the Old Town Hot Springs, year-round convenience & adventure are right out the door. Please read on for more details on what makes the Gilpin Street Chalet an exceptional choice for your visit to the best community in Colorado!
The Location: This property is so close & walkable to everything, yet tucked away just enough to avoid the noise and traffic of main street.
The Location in Summer:
Do you want to walk, jog, shop, dine, bike, hike, bike, swim, fish, raft, kayak, paddleboard, or tube the river? From this home, you literally have all of these options, right out your door. From the home, to your left, you have the Blackmer trailhead for Emerald Mountain, a city park spanning 586 acres and adjacent to thousands more acres of BLM and CPW managed land. Between the city and BLM land, there are over 55 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails to explore. Head up to the Quarry, a family friendly hike, and enjoy one of the best views in Steamboat! From the home, to your right, and within a couple hundred meters, you'll be at the Yampa River and the Core Trail. Specifically, you'll be right next to “C-Hole” and “D-Hole.” These manmade river features create waves perfect for rafters and kayakers in spring, then perfect for paddleboarders, river tubers, and swimming as water levels drop. The Yampa River is full of trout and you'll see anglers trying their luck, even in winter. Just across the river you'll find parks with playgrounds and grills, ideal places for a relaxing day by the water, and host to events such as Art in the Park. Hop on the Yampa River Core Trail or walk down Lincoln Ave. You're only a few blocks away from shopping, dining, and nightlife. Emerald Mountain is more than trails. This massive city park also includes ball fields, volleyball, tennis, pickleball, a skate park, the rodeo grounds, the ice rink, and of course, the free summer concerts!
The Location in Winter:
Ask any local and they'll tell you - since 2007, Downtown Steamboat Springs has leapfrogged the mountain village and become the place you want to be. If you're heading to the big mountain to ski, of course you can drive and park. However, the free parking at the Steamboat base is not great. The only free parking requires you to take a shuttle to the slopes, and if you can find parking within walking distance of the slopes, you're paying egregious amounts. Fortunately, when you stay at the Gilpin Street Chalet, you don't want to have to worry about any of that. Instead, you can just walk over to Lincoln Ave, hop on the free bus (at 13th Street & Lincoln Ave) for a direct route that will deliver you right to the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort. Buses come about every 10 minutes in ski season. Bonus - if you rent equipment at the ski area base, you should be able to store your skis & boots at that rental shop each night, making the bus ride and walk to/from the house very easy. When you're not skiing, you'll have all of the shopping, dining, and nightlife within walking distance. You can even walk to the Howelsen Hill Ski Area, which is part of Emerald Mountain, and America's oldest continuously operating ski area and home to "free ski Sundays!" It also has snow tubing, alpine skiing, and nordic skiing. When the temps are cold and the snow is firm, you can even ride fat tire bikes on the Emerald Mountain trails.
The Property:
Downtown Steamboat Springs is called “old town,” and some homes date back to the 1800s. This half-duplex home is not old. It was built in 2018. The main (entry) level features an open layout which combines the living room, dining area, and kitchen. This space includes a dining table with seating for six plus additional bar seating for four, a comfortable living room with large Smart TV and inviting furnishings, and a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances. LVP floors, large windows, and a ceiling fan enhance the bright, airy feel. This level also provides direct garage access and access to the covered front porch.
The first bedroom has a King size bed, bedrooms 2 and 3 each has a queen size bed, and the fourth bedroom has a Queen, 2 Twins, plus a sleeper sofa. This flexible bed setup makes this home an ideal choice for nearly any group dynamic - couples, singles, families with kids, or a mix.
The upper level includes the first 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, while the whole lower level functions both a secondary living room and the fourth bedroom, complete with its own ensuite bathroom. The first and primary bedroom has a little extra space, a king size bed, vaulted ceilings, a ceiling fan, and wall mounted TV. Bathroom 1 is within this first bedroom, and features a large walk-in shower. Bedrooms 2 and 3 each include a queen size bed and ceiling fan, and bedroom 2 includes a desk with chair for those workaholics in your group. Bathroom 2 is accessible from the upstairs hallway, making it easier for groups to share. It is a larger bathroom that includes a shower and bathtub combo - which can be very helpful if you have younger children.
The lower level has a door which makes this space private from the main level. For sleeping, you'll have a Twin over Queen bunk bed with a Twin sized trundle bed tucked away under the Queen. This large space also includes a sleeper sofa with chaise, a large smart TV, the third bathroom, and a large closet which includes the home's private washer & dryer. With all those beds and a private bathroom, this lower level can be the perfect suite for one couple, a couple with kids, multiple kids, single adults, or a mix. Please note, while this home has plenty of beds, the maximum occupancy of 8 is strictly enforced.

– 4WD vehicle information: The roads which lead to and from this property are generally easy to navigate and well maintained. However, please note that your route to the area may include a mountain pass. ** Group Sizes, High Occupancy Fees, & Maximum Occupancy - Some properties use a “High Occupancy Fee” to “raise the rate” for larger groups, and are thus able to list a lower nightly rate for smaller groups. Each rental agreement and associated rates are for a specific group size. Guests must enter the correct and maximum group size at the time of booking.
