A short wander through the village brings you to the family run local inn, serving real ales and excellent food in a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Explore the local countryside with a variety of picturesque walks straight from the front door such as the Esk Valley Walk which takes you through woodlands and streams to Grosmont, from where the North York Moors Steam Train departs, and beyond. Whitby boasts long sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets and the famous abbey and St Mary’s Church, reached by the 199 ancient steps, where Bram Stoker found his inspiration for his novel, Dracula. If cycling is your forte then you can follow the route of the Tour de Yorkshire which has been passing through Whitby and surrounding villages every year since its inception. The medieval walled city of York with its many attractions is just an hour away, with stately homes such as Castle Howard to visit on the way. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 150yds.
