The Cleveland Way is only a few miles away giving you panoramic coastal walks to the pretty fishing villages and smugglers coves of Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar , Runswick Bay and Staithes.

It is just a few minutes drive or a short bus ride to the popular ancient seaport of Whitby, from where Captain James Cook set sail for Australia. Whitby boasts long sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets and the famous abbey and St Mary’s Church, reached by the 199 ancient steps, where Bram Stoker found his inspiration for his novel, Dracula. If cycling is your forte then you can follow the route of the Tour de Yorkshire which has been passing through Whitby and surrounding villages every year since its inception. The medieval walled city of York with its many attractions is just an hour away, with stately homes such as Castle Howard to visit on the way. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 150yds.
