Loved the breakfast, appreciate the comfortable bed, liked the heater in the washroom, it is a bit loud but it is the city. The staff are kind and the reviews came across mixed, but it was worth it for the part of the city we were in. It is pricey for the old hotel, but the breakfast was great. I don't know why people complain.

The staff was extremely nice, helpful. However, the hallways (think the Shining😬) and amenities were a bit dated. Breakfast is what you expect, the typical eggs, bacon, pancakes, pastries and tea, coffee or juice. It was a great plus that the hotel is literally smack dab in the center of everything. You can walk to the beach, downtown, or to the pier if your really adventurous. It’s great stay overall

Cozy Hotel

I had a wonderful stay at The Whitehall Hotel in Chicago! The location is perfect—right in the heart of downtown, just steps away from shopping, restaurants, and attractions. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with everything I needed for a pleasant stay. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help with recommendations or directions. I especially appreciated the classic charm of the hotel combined with modern comfort. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Chicago.

The door to our room and corridor was slim and the noise from other guest entry and exit was horrible. The staff reaction to pointing this out was unfriendly and very rude. The attitude continued even at breakfast with very unfriendly staff. Retraining will help and a need to be courteous to people.

This hotel requires a significant renovation and I think my money deserved a better place to stay! So expensive for a hotel in the condition.. breakfast was great, walkable and access to public transport, so location wise the hotel was great! I recently stayed at The Whitehall Hotel, and while the location and historic charm are definite positives, my overall experience was mixed. The attached restaurant was a big letdown. We tried it our first night, and although our waiter was friendly, the service was very poor. Drinks were forgotten, food came out overcooked, and the pace was slow—even though the restaurant was nearly empty. The room itself was spacious and clean, but it’s clear the property needs some updating. The shower dial in our bathroom was broken, making it difficult to adjust water temperature. The fridge in the room was inconsistent, turning on and off, and when we reported this to the front desk, we were told someone would come up—but no one ever did. Another frustration was the ice situation—you have to request it, and after waiting almost two hours without delivery, we ended up going to the front desk ourselves to get some. Digital check-in was also confusing and left a bad impression. I repeatedly tried to pay for a 2pm late checkout for $25, and it kept getting declined, but oddly enough, the $45 3pm checkout was approved right away. This gave scammy vibes, especially when the front desk didn’t even seem aware that it had gone through—even though I had confirmation on my phone. Overall, the hotel has potential—it’s clean, has character, and the rooms are a decent size—but the lack of attention to detail, poor follow-through on service, and outdated amenities made my stay feel “meh.”
