This hotel can be summed up in two ways:
1) Old historic hotel and all the pros/cons that goes with that; and
2) Gracious service.
The Pros:
This is a very old hotel that had recently undergone significant renovation on the outside and common areas like the lobby. The lobby is a fun spot to enjoy a drink in the evening. We met very nice people and the bands that play on the weekend are great.
There’s a Starbucks coffee bar on the side of the lobby, which is very convenient, but there’s no signage, so it’s easy to miss.
The food was very good at a very reasonable price. The fried chicken is among the best I’ve had.
They are pet friendly and there’s a park conveniently across the street for potty breaks.
The bath house staff are so friendly and skilled. My massage was among the best I’ve had - even among those that cost 3 times more.
Whenever we had an issue, the staff resolved it immediately with graciousness.
Cons:
This is a very old hotel.
The upside of old hotels:
Beautiful art deco touches, brass elevators, real marble floors, a glimpse of how people lived 100 years ago.
Very reasonably priced.
The downside of old hotels:
Not all rooms have been rehabbed. There is peeling paint and old carpet and chipped bath tubs and tiles.
The bath house is in very rough condition.
The pros, and the price in particular, make up for the cons. I would definitely recommend for not-picky people. If you expect perfection, this is not the place for you.
