Warm service, great deal!
My husband & I stayed 5 nights in Dec. 2013, & our 17-yr-old son joined for 2 nights. While Hotel Mevlana isn't a luxurious 5 star hotel, it's a clean well-run place in excellent location with very kind, helpful staff. I used a foldable wheelchair (I can walk limited distances), & hotel staff was exceptionlly kind, warm & helpful. Firat at reception advised with taxis, even coming to tell the taxi-driver where we were going. We took a day tour of Istanbul with the hotel's travel agency, & that was one of the best decisions, considering that moving around with a wheelchair can be a chore in hilly, cobblestoned Istanbul. The tour price was good, too. Our guide, Murat, actually pushed my wheelchair while telling us the history of each site. I have travelled a lot, & he was by far the warmest & kindest guide I've ever met! The hotel is clean: cleaners come every day. In the beginning we stayed in a standard room on the 2nd floor, which was nice, but very small. When our son arrived, we moved to a triple room in the basement. That room had a bit of a basementy stale smell, but with a fan running it was ok, and very roomy for the 3 of us. Both rooms had good heating (nice in December). WiFi work well in both rooms. Tram stop in Sultanahmet is close by. I have since had a joint operation: now I'm dreaming of going back to magical Istanbul in the spring, staying, naturally, in homey Hotel Mevlana.
