For the price I’d rate the Best Western Guinigi as only ok and could do better. There were some niggles that should not have happened at a hotel for this price and purporting to be a 4 star experience. Firstly room service was average with a particular gripe of the staff never putting new cups and saucers in the room (this happened 4 times out of the 6 days I spent at the hotel), meaning I had to go down myself from the fourth floor to reception and get from the bar staff. Annoying in itself but made worse by the attitude of the staff who offered no apologies and didn’t seem to understand that it was an issue. Also only one teabag was allowed it appeared in the room and even that was forgotten about on the last two nights. Considering the cost of the room (approx £130 a night) you would have thought they could afford more. Also it was not made clear until checkout that the bottled water in the fridge was not complimentary and charged at 3 euros a bottle. The room was a really nice size with a huge king size bed but the mattress was as hard as nails which did not make for a good night’s sleep. Air conditioning was good although broke down on my last night which I alerted reception to on check out. Cleaning standard was generally good. Location was a little out of town, about 20-25 minutes walk which was ok for me. There is a half hourly bus service during the week into town also.

I got this hotel as alternate solution provided by Tour operator due to canceled reservation of different hotel. Hotel is located outside of Lucca - in the middle of nowhere. Not good for travelers without a car. No free water at the rooms even if it's rated as four stars hotel. It's a shame that a hotel is not providing it for free when a room costs nearly 180€/night. I even think that for a four stars rated hotel it should work on a few details. For me it is currently not a four stars hotel.

We stayed in a suite. When we arrived the room had not be aired. once windows balcony door opened it was fine. We had booked twin beds so when we entered room and found double we discussed with front desk and they had this sorted out and 2 x drink vouchers. It took another 40 minutes before we could get back into room and the bar was not open until 5pm which was 3 hours away. we were told there was a vending machine with cold drinks. our stay was for 6 nights and during this time the sheets were not changed, something we are not used to in Italy. Would have expected at least one change after 3 days. Breakfast was good but difficult to get proper coffee (not out of machine) as staff who took room number (if anyone was there to do so) didn't ask unless you asked. Also one day there were not plates left to put breakfast items on. On the Friday we got back from a trip out and went to vending machine in Hotel and there was no still water. I went to front desk and asked about this and what appeared to be a manager said the bar opens at 5pm to which i said i knew (again a couple of hours away from that) and he offered water bottles that were hot. 2 days later the vending machine had not yet been refilled. we headed for the supermarket! Overall staff at front desk were quite helpful but the stay could have been so much more comfortable if there had been a smoother operation in place especially with a hotel group this size. just rather disappointing.
