Absolutely unique experience. If you want a fancy western style hotel, don’t stay here. If you want to have a genuinely Japanese experience, in an absolutely stunning area with some of the best snow I have seen in my lifetime, then add Kumanoyo to your list. Personally, I loved this place.
The location is good. It’s near the Kumanoyu ski area. It’s within 5 minutes walking distance. This hotel is more geared to catering to Chinese visitors who want to hit the slopes. They play Chinese-theme music during breakfast at their buffet. Their breakfast is a big spread, and the food is pretty good. The people there do accommodate you, but they are somewhat cold. If you slip on their steps and fall because of the snow, they will not come out to help you or apologize. Come here to seek Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama snow, don’t come here for the atmosphere because it was almost nonexistent.
A poor maintained onsen hotel!
No towel and locker available in the onsen, need to bring along everything from the room! The room itself is very old and poor maintained; the dining which is just fair, don’t expect that as same kind of Food and beverage to a graded resort; fortunately a Taiwanese lady serving down there with excellent service to pull the satisfaction up a bit!
