Check in was extra long and not welcomed upon arrival. Paid for stay at the reception-it looked like the right amount (that is-expensive). At check out, told that was not charged the right amount at check in and needed to pay more. Unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. Needed to rush to catch a train and told I could not leave until paid additional amount. Bad experience.

Beautiful property right by the river. The customer service is excellent. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very impressive. We especially enjoyed Vinology with the port tasting and river views. The restaurant bar was equally excellent and bartender Raquel Santos went way above and beyond in providing a personalized experience.She explained the mixology of different cocktails, variety of Portuguese wines the region prides itself of, etc. Our room was very comfortable and the views from our window of the river and unique architecture of the buildings across in the district of Gaia was fantastic.

The location is a plus and the staff were so welcoming and help a lot with many of my inquiries, the ladies at the front desk lobby were incredible, I wish i could remember their names, Marta Rodrigues is one of them. The staff at breakfast area were like family, they knew my orders after 3 days ( i stayed a total of q5 days and will be back February 9th) Hugo, Kathia and the hostess were great, I was very happy to have breakfast each day with such a lovely team (and breakfast was good 👍). I encounter some minor issues though: like the first week I had the shower flooding constantly (room 417) then in room 221 the AC did not work 😑 and end up sleeping in such a hot room... they fix it but it kept stopping. Also, I had to use an extension cord from the bedroom to the bathroom to be able to use hair dryer...
