It has one of the richest prehistoric heritage sites in the country, including engravings and cave paintings, 120 Dolmen (dating back 5000 years) and Cists (megalithic funerary monuments). This village has a rich historical and architectural heritage, including the Castro Laboreiro Castle - classified as a national monument, the parish church, the 16th century pillory, classified as a building of public interest, Roman and medieval bridges, community ovens, granaries and mills.

It is a region of great beauty, meandering along the River Laboureiro, with its lagoons and waterfalls, ideal for long swims in summer and for practising extreme sports. This river is crossed by numerous bridges from the Roman and medieval periods, including the Ponte da Dorna, the Ponte da Assureira, the Ponte Nova or Cava Velha and the Ponte Velha.
