Don’t make the same mistake we made.

Needed a place to stay that was close the airport since we had an early morning flight. Boy did we make a mistake choosing this place. Room was ok until you looked around. Floor hadn’t been vacuumed. The bathtub had long, black hairs stuck to the sides and bottom. The chair for the desk was visually dirty and looked stained. It had crumbs on it so I didn’t use it. We got there late in the evening so we just put up with it.

I liked the rooms we got, the pool, the location was close to restaurants and stores, however I didn't like the breakfast, they only offered cereal, yogurt, different breads, oatmeal, juice, two fruit options and coffee.. The coffee was good had good creamers, surprised not to see eggs, a breakfast meat or waffles at least, another thing I didn't like were the pool closing hours it's summer and pool closed so early!

I was so confused after reading all the great reviews, because once we checked in it was clear this hotel was not it. The buildings are in desperate need of updating & our room was dark & gross. The carpet was dirty, the toilet tank didn’t refill automatically, the breakfast was laughable, and the pool towels are the size of bath mats. There is no way the glowing reviews are legitimate, because this hotel screams icky motel. The only good thing about it was the $13 overnight parking. We will never come back to this establishment!

Just okay.

It wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t great, and we won’t be back. There was used toilet paper in our toilet when we checked in, for one. Not a huge deal, but gross. Place just felt kind of unclean and the breakfast was pretty lame (bread/muffins/fruit). Also, there’s not hot tub, so that’s kind of a bummer.

This is a good stop for a no frills stay in Portland. Prices are readable, and the refurbished rooms are comfortable. There is a lot within walking distance in terms of food and drinks. In addition, there is a light rail stop right in front of the hotel. It can take you to PSU and the downtown area. You can ride it all day for $5.60. In the past, they would give guests chocolate chip cookies and offer a hot breakfast in the morning. It is now a decent continental breakfast, certainly enough to get started with good coffee from the Portland Roasting Company.

Pleasant stay

Traditionally staying with a large family at the University Place on 4th of July for many years. Main reasons - location and pool. Had no problem in the past to have at least one room next to the pool. Specified this request on my booking few months prior to stay. In the end received rooms on the 3d floor which were traded on the 1st one but on the other side of the hotel. The hotel explanation provided was the conference run at the hotel at that time. But people staying at the rooms by the pool have not even heard about any conference. Otherwise, the stay was very pleasant.

Decent place to stay at if you want to pass a couple days in Portland. The only downsides is that the they don’t really maintain their gym and their continental breakfast is really basic food. For its price it’s not too bad. I might go again if I pass some days in Portland but not an ideal place to stay a long time for me.
