Copthorne Hotel

Excellent location and good free available parking. The room was okay - USB points would be ideal. Chester on reception provided a great welcome.The tram is a 5 minute walk.

Hostel style hotel, 1 star max

You most definitely get what you pay for. First of all, we paid just £45 for one night, which included parking. Where can you stay for that amount? The hotel wasn’t great, bed wasn’t very comfy, but again £45 a night. There was a really strong musty, damp smell in the room. Which to be fair, we could have mentioned and given them the option to move us, but we didn’t. I’d say if you are sensitive to smells, this one isn’t for you. Everything is really heavily fragranced (perhaps to mask the musty smell). The lobby & corridors have a very strong fragrance (air freshener - not a bad smell, just really overpowering). All provided toiletries including the hand wash are really over scented (so bring your own if you struggle with that). Would I stay here again, probably not, but it’s cheap as chips and relatively clean. I just couldn’t cope with the overpowering smells.

A great hotel

This is a lovely hotel, maybe a bit dated decor wise, but clean, quiet and comfortable. Rooms are spacious with usual tea etc, large TV, plenty of storage two chairs, tables and a fridge. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves a good variety of meals, which can also be purchased in the bar throughout the day. We have stayed 3 times now and have no complaints at all. Whether you stay for 1 night or more, the location is excellent for public transport, tram and bus and exploring the quays on a nice day is well worth it. All in all, great value for money.

Yes another poor stay - never again !

Have stopped a couple of times as the hotel comes up usually top of the list, price average. Made the mistake of hoping 1 decent room in in a number of stays I would be lucky again, nope ! Last stay was the last one for me, again fire alarms, no apology, no room checks on guests. On this occasion the alarm had gone off again and guests evacuated. After we returned I passed an elderly couple still trying to get out with no help! Lucky it was a false alarm. The room, had to laugh if was designed to be retro it would have been interesting. It appeared to be a room which had been locked away for 30 years or used by a number of staff when not in use. Cables running under the asking door to power the next door room. Staining, shabby, old and just very poor. I have slept in better tents. Breakfast below average Hotel require a card as security even if you have paid by the app and have your details ; only hotel I have been to which it is not an option it’s compulsory. Hotels.com should make their customers aware of this requirement.
