Excellent room, service level could be better

The hotel clearly didn’t have enough staff, just two people running around covering the bar, restaurant and checking people in. We attempted to check in at the specified time of 3pm and told the rooms were still not ready, we were checked in and then had to wait a further 20mins before we actually checked in, the room was nice and very well decorated just a shame about the lack of staffing resource taking the edge off the service level which is a shame.

Fabulous food and stay!

Tremendous stay at the joiners arms. The rooms had deep pile carpet, bed and shower was incredible, my wife loved it, from start to finish. Highly recommended.

We stayed in tye tweed suite which has a hot tub in the back garden. The hot tub was not private and we had other parties looking out the window into our garden area. When we arrived at 4.45 we tried to book in for dinner and we told that we could have a table for dinner now, but apart from that they had nothing else for the evening. We had to book and drive 15 minutes to another restaurant. On our way out at 6.30 we popped into the pub for a pop and there was lots of tables not being used. Don’t understand how they couldn’t accomadate us. Car park is not outside the property. You need to walk 5 mins up the street and park in a car park which in my eyes was not safe at all. When having to walk to our car to got for food the road to the car park was pitch black. Not one street light on. The property inside was lovely, and the breakfast was Nice.

Room was nice but very very hot and uncomfortable at points during night. Breakfast was disappointing as breakfast stotties ordered and one was cold and the other was half empty. Also coffee machine was not working and it was noted to make americano but it was very watery and they wouldn’t provide a caffietere or pot of tea which they used to. Service at this point was disappointing as they noted they didn’t want to make the coffee.

Bedrooms very nice,however TVs need updating.you cannot park your car at the joiners arms it is a 3-400 yard walk to a car park.we arrived at 10 past 2 to check in and blankly told check in is at 3pm,even without asking our name to check if room was available.when we did check in simply directed to our room and told key in the door,which it was not. We had an evening meal in the bar area and it was simply that.nothing extraordinary,however must say the staff were excellent,very helpful,polite and hardworking but understaffed,they were ran off their feet.very well done to them. We checked out a day early on a two night booking….

Nice big rooms

Lovely spacious rooms. Loved the roll top bath in the room but the water wasn’t too hot. We had been to a wedding so came home late to find the door to hotel locked & it took 5 phone calls to get entry.

Not a 5 star gastro-pub, just a pub.

The 5 stars clearly awarded by themselves, gastro pub - I think not. Its just a pub with pub food and any pretence of class evaporates at breakfast time when families from the rest of the Newton Hall estate descend on the place to fill their lunch packs from the buffet counter... Lots of friendly staff and nice touches here and there but none of it joins up to provide a great experience.
