Booked a one bedroom apartment, however there wasn’t a door on bedroom, which basically made the apartment more of a studio, but at the “one bedroom” price point. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The Oaks Melbourne on Market Hotel provides a very convenient place to stay, right in the centre of the city. The unserviced room I stayed in for three days was very quiet and had all the facilities expected. However, the room was putrid with the stench emanating from the kitchen vent and I was forced to buy, at some cost, an automated room scent diffuser, in order to try to counteract the dreadful odour. Also, the hotel wifi took quite some time to connect and was shut off some time before the official check out time of 10.00 a.m. - which was really tiresome, giving my agenda in Melbourne that day. The in room TV provided movies, though half of them seemed to be off-line or not available. The front of house reception seemed to be not particularly well staffed and or not interested. On checking out, the young lady to whom I spoke appeared quite perplexed as to why I would even bother to check out anyway ? All up, if you are looking for a quiet and handy place to stay for a few days, this hotel might just be the ticket - but don't expect anything but the bear minimum.

From Expedia booking to Oaks the original bookingvfor twin beds was missing so I had to share a queen bed. The toilet light flickered at times and the toilet cistern had the stiffest push buttons. Not good for anyone with arthritis. I did pass on these concerns. The view of the river and casino night lights was lovely. On the plus side the prepaid breakfast deal was excellent. The pool, spa and sauna also great. Establishment was obviously locked into dei hiring of staff. Only saw one white aussie in the whole place. Sad for young aussies.

Walking into lobby made us feel great we made a good choice.. then we got to the room and the warm fuzzy feeling left.. Average at best, well thats ok not staying long.. But then..sat on the side of the bed you could feel the springs Bathroom that was the worst part, shower over bath (knew that) but it had a half glass partition. No non slip mats ( be careful entering and exiting) mould in the silicone, grout not much better needs a deep clean. but the shower itself was absolutely terrible! No water preasure at all!! (guess if it did it wld go over floor) didnt use cold water tap at all to have a warm shower. Kitchenette had no plug to wash dishes properly. Only good point was the location. Close to trams, central to city and southbank.Have stayed at Oaks properties before and this was the worst room we have ever had.

Very comfortable bed. Poor communication by reception re displaying features and benefits of property as the scan option would not work and receptionist couldn’t or wouldn’t get it to work either, despite promising to forward this to my email. Bar staff on Thursday night also had no idea on how happy hour worked and certainly failed to provide the free drinks that were promised and then overcharged. Most disappointed by the lack of care or knowledge of a number of staff
