We were given an ambulant room which was disappointing given what we paid and was not made aware of this on check in. Further to that, when checking in (early) we were advised our room wouldn’t be ready which was fine but that reception would call us when it was available and we didn’t receive a call. The rooms were not cleaned or serviced daily which was a huge disappointment given that the property is a premium establishment and we expected that rooms would be tended to. Staff were professional but lacked finesse especially with regard to checking in. I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

After a wonderful visit last month, I decided that the Savoy would be my forever hotel in Melbourne. Nice vibe, excellent accommodation, great for trams, trains, and the airport. Unfortunately this week's return stay ended with a sour taste, and I'm not sure I will ever go back. Why? After an excellent day out on Wednesday, I decided to have a quick drink in the hotel bar before bed. But there were no staff serving on the bar. So I waited, for quite a while. Still no staff. Eventually, I ducked round behind the bar, to see if I could get someone's attention. Nobody there. Heading for reception to ask whether the bar was already shut, I was reprimanded by one of the reception staff for going behind the bar. No apology for the lack of service, just a reprimand. At that same moment, both bar staff reappeared from wherever they had been. Lesson? If you don't want guests going behind the bar to seek service, put up a sign that directs them to seek help at reception when the bar staff are otherwise engaged.

Love staying at the Savoy. Despite being so close to Southern Cross station and trams it is very quiet, unlike newer buit hotels in the area. Staff are great. Only disappointment are the dining options but being in such a good area there is plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance.

Limited dining choices. Staff was helpful When we checked in, which was late the guy did not give us credit for our breakfast, which was paid for, however we were able to get this corrected the next day with the manager. Public transportation is easily accessible around the hotel
