Fantastic hotel with an onsen

Great hotel in Takayama literally a 3-minute walk from the train station. Stayed here two nights in May 2025. Very modern, comfortable hotel with outstanding service. Breakfast buffet provided every type of cuisine you can imagine from French to Italian to Japanese to American. The staff are all so warm and hospitable.

Enjoyed 4 nights at the Mercure Hida Takayama. Were able to meet my request for a room on a higher floor and facing in the old town direction. Was treated to a view of the snow capped mountains in the distance. Hotel is modern and designed with lots of wood features to match the tradition of the local area. Room was spacious compared to normal Japanese hotels with plenty of room to store luggage and move around in. Good touches such as USB sockets built into the bedside panels. Bathroom was walk in shower which we prefer and was a good size. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Hotel has public onsen and also 3 private onsens. There is a small mandatory charge on top of the room cost for the public onsens which I didn't recall seeing any note about when booking but it was a small charge. Public onsen was good though with indoor and outdoor for both men and women. Went a couple of time in late evening and was pretty quiet. Location great - close to bus and train station (5 min walk). About 10min walk into Takayama old town. Overall, if we ever went back to Takayama, we would try and stay here again.

Nous sommes restés une seule nuit l'accueil était très bien la chambre propre la douche impeccable le petit-déjeuner très bien. le seul bémol c'est que la chambre pour 4 personnes 2 adultes et 2 enfants de 12 et 10 ans le lit pour les 2 enfants été trop juste. Pour une nuit ça va mais pour 2 voir plus il faut bien validé la taille du lit avec l'accueil.

Such a beautiful property. You will feel relaxed in this hotel. Location is really close the train station. Nice breakfast as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
