A horrendous one week stay in a dirty apartment topped by car burgled whilst parked outside

We have stayed here one week in October and regretted booking it after the first night spent in the flat. The bedding and everything in the house is beyond disgusting dirty and should be thrown away immediately. Pillows are stained, mattress stained by urine, mattress protectors stained and with human hairs uncleaned from previous stays, the carpets were so dirty we had to roll them to sides as we could not imagine walking barefoot or in socks on them. The upholstery smells. The washing machine has a broken thermostat which boiled and destroyed several blouses on a 30 degrees cycle. Tumble dry or spin cycle does not work and clothes cannot be drained as there is no drying rack. We reported all the issues yet for a week nobody came to fix them or acknowledge they were broken. Our car was burgled whilst parked on the street outside the flat, thieves stole everything left inside including nappies and baby's car seat fixed with isofix base. A terrible area and terrible choice. We hesitated to leave a review due to our hospitality business also being listed on VRBO and fear of reprisal by fake reviews on google etc, but the fact that we tried to review on their own site and were not allowed to post has prompted this review here. The people that manage the flat are kind and curteous and reply to emails but that does not change the situation and we find it really surprising that a property in that state has a cleaning fee attached and a security deposit in the state in which it is.

Beautiful Alfama Flat

This 3 bedroom apartment is beautiful and well appointed with modern kitchen, 3 bathrooms and comfy beds. It is on a quiet street on the edge of Alfama and very close to Baixa Chiado and the waterfront. It’s the perfect location for exploring Lisbon. Note that we had a break-in on the first day of our stay that we believe was because the main building entrance door wasn’t closed properly. Management quickly responded by offering to take us to the police, installing signs on the front door, and working with the building owners to ensure the main door latches properly. When you leave ensure that both the apartment door and main entrance door are properly secure from the outside and enjoy your stay.

Pretty flat in perfect location for exploring Lisbon on foot

Best thing about the flat is the location! Located steps from Lisbon Cathedral, it’s possible to walk into Alfama to catch a fado show at dinner time, explore all the beautiful squares (Rossio, Restauradores, Praca Commercial), bus/tram/metro very close, pedestrian only street with restaurants, shops and mini-grocery stores within steps. Good communications and staff person met us on site for checkin. Well stocked with dishes and staples. The only downside is that the beds in the second and third rooms could be a little more comfortable, and the appliances are a little unfamiliar to North Americans - be sure to ask for a detailed walk through of how to operate A/C, stove and washer/dryer. Great flat overall; we had a great time here!
