My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at Viva V Samana. Let me just start off by saying that the property is gorgeous, nice beach, most of the staff are friendly, and the drinks are good. It pretty much stops there. The food was horrible, i've traveled down to the caribbean a number of times and had bland food before, but the food was also almost always cold, and either over cooked or under cooked. I got food poisoning on our 3rd day there, and was incredibly sick for the entire day. My girlfriend and i began sticking to the same food each day we were there which was pretty much pizza and white rice as to be on the safe side. Next was the harrassing staff trying to sell you their VIP package for the hotel as soon as we arrived. My girlfriend and i got to our rooms on our first day, we were so hungry we dropped our bags and headed to the buffet where before we got there were already being hassled about this VIP package. We thought nothing of it at first until each day they continued to persist us for the package, they do it for a sales commission which i totally understand, but we did not come to a resort to be harrassed for 3 days about joining a VIP membership that we had no intention of ever paying for. We also booked an excursion to the lemon waterfall that was supposed to be half day from 8am - 12pm however we spent almosy 2 hours driving around picking up other customers for different excursions that was not ever explained. In conclusion stay away and book a grand bahia.

Beautifully located with fantastic beach and view of the mountains. Easy walk into the ocean. Unfortunately, communication with the staff is very limited (no English) and there is always a wait time to get your drinks. Staff is notoriously late serving up the food. Room service is not good , barely warm food and over hour and a half wait time. Private pools by bungalows are cold. Very nice semi private bar and seating area between bungalows. An OK resort experience, but far cry from Secrets level.

Property was clean and beautiful. Staff was very nice. Ebikes did not work for the entire week we were there. Lighting in the bathroom is not very good. Food at the buffet was good to excellent most of the time. It was a challenge to make a reservation in one of the al-la-carte restaurants so we didn't visit any of them. I had read that English is widely spoken. This was not true. Best to know spanish if you want to converse with the staff. Area surrounding the resort is poor and dirty but there is no need to leave the resort. We didn't do any excursions but others who did liked them.

We are seeking a refund for this trip for the reasons below: -Cleaner did not show up every day with no explanation -Got sick and needed water, room service said 5 mins then did not show up and partner had to abandon sick partner to get water -No DND/please clean card -Extremely slow services, told 5 minutes and would wait 1.5hrs -Constantly out of beach towels, would take 40 minutes to replace after numerous people asked -Got a stomach flu and had to cancel excursion, asked what hotel could do to accommodate. Offered us late check out and blamed our illness on us even though tons of other people were sick too. Then, when they took our cards to extend check out, they cancelled them instead, locking us out of our room. -Ants in our room -Cockroaches in the dining area -Entertainment and shows on app listed in Spanish with no location listed -Employees English skills are subpar. One called our room to ask our satisfaction. When told we were unhappy, they said "thanks have a good day" and hung up, no acknowledgement or apologies. -Horribly uncomfortable pillows & beds -Safe literally did not work at all -Did not replace bath robes once -Lack of seating in buffet, left standing there for 5-10 mins searching for free table while VIP section was empty -Paper thin walls, heard other people vomiting and using bathroom -No back up generators, power went out multiple times -Water turned off suddenly, unable to shower -Cigarette burn holes in bed sheets

Honestly the food was not great at all. Room service was horrible and the seafood restaurant was horrendous. The only good restaurant was fusion. So I suggest booking there for sure! The service was alright depending on who you speak to. I spent 30 min waiting for towels by the pool. The property is beautiful and clean which is a plus. But I would have preferred to stay at an air b and b and enjoy the restaurants in the area.

The place is really beautiful and the staff is really nice. I really enjoyed and can’t wait to go back to another Viva. The country is really awful and poor and the way from Puerto Plata until the resort was really bad. Despite that I really loved the experience.

Picturesque but Terrible Service

Positively, the hotel is clean, has a lovely pool and beach. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends. I was greeted at the gate when arriving with a gruff “nombre” no hello, no welcome. The same was true at the front desk. A terrible start to the trip and I was keen to turn around right then; and should have. The food is dreadful, poorly cooked and sitting out for much too long. Also, mostly the same offerings at every meal. The staff is either rude or indifferent to issues. I did not have hot water during my entire stay and, despite repeated trips to the front desk to seek help (both in English and Spanish) they just kept saying “its just a water problem” and did nothing to help me or even let me use the shower in another room. I explained that the sink was hot but the shower was frigid and they simply shrugged. In my first five minutes, I asked where to find beach towels (which were strangely very hard to come by) and the man launched into a Club Viva sales pitch instead of getting towels. Hardly relaxing and so gross. We were looking at this place for a very large wedding buyout but they don’t deserve the business.

Our recent visit to this resort was nothing short of frustrating. We arrived early at 7:30 AM for an excursion we had booked online that was supposed to depart at 8:00 AM. However, the experience quickly turned sour. When we approached the excursion customer service desk, the staff seemed completely clueless about the booking. Instead of resolving the issue promptly, they told us to wait until their manager responded. They disappeared without providing any updates, leaving us hanging for over an hour. By the time 8:00 AM came and went, we were finally informed that the excursion had not been available for months! What’s baffling is why they didn’t tell us this immediately instead of wasting our entire morning. A responsible business would have offered an alternative activity or at least communicated honestly. To add insult to injury, the refund process has been a nightmare. Despite calling, emailing, and speaking to staff in person, all we’ve received are empty assurances that “the refund is coming.” It’s now been 11 days, and we’re still waiting for our money. This lack of organization, accountability, and customer care is shocking. While I’ve accepted the wasted morning, being out the money for an excursion we didn’t even get to enjoy is unacceptable. I strongly advise against trusting this resort with your time or money.

The beach front access is really nice! The AC in the rooms is great and they're great at providing and resupplying bottled water throughout the stay. I really liked the gym facilities as well. The quality of the food was average, but not incredible. The employees were sporadically helpful. I asked multiple employees where the clean pool towels were and most of them lazily pointed to an area, only to find that all the towels were dirty. The hotel incorrectly billed my for using a spa service, and then wasted an hour an half of my time trying to resolve it, made me late for my flight because of it, and charged me inaccurately even after all my efforts to resolve the issue.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities
Like - Crew - Room - Food / beverages (for cocktails they should have low sugar options, food - it would be nice to mark dairy/gluten free food for persons with intolerances/allergies) - beach Not so nice - sometimes music was too loud and not in my taste - they tried hard to sell club thing for 14k USD (this felt like being interrogated hahahaha) - seldom power cuts - guess this was because they used makeshift extension leads outside (made from wall sockets and wall boxes without protection against water ingress)
